Lisa Barlow Is a “F-cking Mess” Over Jack’s Health Scare on His Mission in Colombia: Details
The RHOSLC cast member broke down in tears while describing her eldest son's health issues.
Although Lisa Barlow shared on the Season 5 premiere of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City that her son Jack Barlow is thriving amid his two-year Mormon church mission to Colombia, she reveals in the video above that things have taken an unfortunate turn.
In the above preview for Season 5, Episode 3 of RHOSLC (set to air October 2), Lisa tells her castmates that Jack came down with an illness.
"Health-wise, he's like, fledgling a little bit. I don't want to get emotional," she says before pausing to find her words. "He's just having some health problems."
In a confessional, Lisa breaks down exactly what's happening with her 19-year-old son (she also shares Henry, 12, with her husband, John Barlow).
"Jack has been on his mission in Colombia for about eight months, and in the middle of the night Jack woke up and he had the worst pain in his stomach. He was like, 'Is it my appendix? What's going on with me?' And he couldn't even stand up," she says. "As a mom, it's like the worst thing to know your kid isn't doing well and you're not there."
While there are rules in place to prevent visits from loved ones on missions, exceptions can be made for health issues. Nevertheless, Jack wants to weather the storm on his own.
"I was resolute in the fact that I was going to Colombia, but Jack said, 'No. I don't want you coming. I will figure this out by myself,'" Lisa explains. "He's my firstborn. He's my baby. Just to have him going through so much is really hard as a mom. I'm such a f-cking mess. I hate it."
While speaking to the women, Lisa apologizes for getting emotional, but notes the previous day was "rough."
"I just want him better, you know?" she adds.
Lisa Barlow Reveals How She Communicates with Jack on His Mission
During the season premiere, Lisa shared yet another update on her eldest son.
“I miss him like crazy every day,” she said in a confessional. “The only way we get to communicate is Facebook messages and phone calls once a week. I love hearing him grow, and just seeing his priorities change and just for him to still be like, ‘Cool Jack,’ but with a purpose.”
As for how Jack likes Colombia? He's "obsessed."
"I feel like it’s teaching him a lot of things. Like they have the coolest bookstores and barbershops," Lisa noted in the premiere, adding that her son has found "the best coffee shops" and a couple Michelin-star restaurants.
Has Lisa Barlow Seen Son Jack Since He Left for His Mission?
Yes. In May, Lisa revealed Jack had briefly visited Salt Lake City.
“A necessary trip and amazing timing,” she captioned an Instagram post showing a family photoshoot. "Love seeing my Jack so we could make sure the next 14 months in Colombia he would be completely well. I love seeing his maturity, hearing him speak Spanish and his love of service and the people of Colombia.”
