Leah Remini Says Celebrity Scientologists "Literally Run Away" from Her at Events
The Second Act star opens up about Elisabeth Moss and being shunned by current members of her former religion.
Leah Remini has been one of the most famous outspoken critics of the Church of Scientology after she left the organization in 2013. And her departure has made things pretty awkward in her social circle, to put it mildly.
In particular, Remini has spoken out in the past about how Elisabeth Moss, a current member of the Church of Scientology, would not be able to talk to her if the two were to cross paths. There were even reports that Moss went so far as to walk out when Remini accepted the award for Outstanding Achievement in Reality Programming for her docu-series Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath at the Television Critics Association Awards in 2017.
But Remini doesn't seem to be fazed by moments like that. "No, unfortunately, I wish I was surprised," Remini reflected on Moss' reported exit during her speech on Thursday night's Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen (clip above). "But that is kind of the teachings of Scientology, to not watch or listen to anything or anyone who's speaking out against the abuses of it."
Moments like those are not at all uncommon for Remini as an ex-Scientologist. She also shared on WWHL that she has experienced encounters with celebrity Scientologists who "literally run away" from her. "And it's really sad to watch it, you know, because it's like I really don't mean them any harm, but I know how they feel. I remember how I felt when I saw people who I was taught and brainwashed into believing were the devil, and so it's sad to see them react to me that way where I'm like, 'I'm me. I don't mean you any harm. I want you to do well in life, I promise you,'" Remini recalled. "Especially when you're at a celebrity house party, and someone literally runs out of the room. You know, your first reaction when you see a friend or somebody you knew is to go, 'Hey!' You know what I mean? And they literally run away like you're a pimp or something. It's very odd."
We're not really sure about the ex-Scientologist-to-pimp comparison, Remini, but we still get your point.
Remini previously opened up about leaving Scientology during an appearance on WWHL in 2015. Check it out, below.
