Kristen Doute Is Engaged to Luke Broderick: Details on the "Total Surprise" Proposal
The Valley couple is officially engaged after two years of dating — get all of the details on the moment he popped the question and the dazzling ring.
Kristen Doute and Luke Broderick are engaged! The Valley couple confirmed on Friday, Sept.6 that Luke proposed to Kristen while on a sunset cruise in Maui, Hawaii earlier this week.
The outdoorsman told Kristen to "keep an eye out for dolphins" before getting down on one knee and proposing to his girlfriend of two years. "It was a total surprise," Kristen told Us Weekly. Photos from the engagement, posted to Instagram, show the pure look of shock on her face while Luke popped the question and the celebration that they had afterward against the stunning Hawaii sunset. Kristen's gorgeous, Emerald-cut diamond ring (more details below) can also be seen close up, sparkling in the sun.
"I am so excited to continue this journey together, now as fiancés," Kristen told the publication.
Kristen Doute's Engagement Ring Details from Luke Broderick
Luke confirmed that he designed the engagement ring with the Vanderpump Rules friend and jewelry designer Kyle Chan. Together, they were able to come up with a 4.27 carat Emerald cut diamond ring surrounded by "a half carat worth of diamonds on the band and hidden halo" set in 14K white gold, which represents Luke's "love" that surrounds Kristen.
Kyle also designed the engagement rings for Kristen's friends and former VPR cast members — Scheana Shay, who got a 12-carat pink engagement ring from her husband Brock Davies, as well as Katie Maloney, who got a rose gold engagement ring from now ex-husband, Tom Schwartz. Kristen is now a member of this very exclusive club.
Inside Kristen Doute's and Luke Broderick's Journey to Marriage
Kristen and Luke met at a wedding in June 2022 where she was serving as a bridesmaid and he was serving as a groomsman. The couple dealt with long distance for a bit before he moved into an apartment with her in Los Angeles.
Although Luke told Entertainment Tonight in March 2024 that he doesn't want to live long-term in LA (especially once he and Kristen decide to have kids), he is excited for all that is to come in their future: "I think I have just evolved so much...we have our podcast, but I really wanted to showcase our life and wanting to be married, eventually married, wanting to be parents."
Kristen has also been open about her reluctance to fall in love with Luke, while also being ready to get married and start a family. "I battled with being your person," she told Luke during a 2022 episode of their podcast, Balancing Act with Kristen Doute and Luke Broderick. "I love you so much, but just the thought of being someone's girlfriend again threw me through a loop because I want to be a wife, and I want to be a mother. And I was so tired of being a girlfriend for a couple of years and then having sh-t fall apart."
Well, it seems like these days, congratulations are in order to the happy couple as they prepare for marriage!
