Kim Richards Comes Clean About Her Sobriety
The 'RHOBH' star opens up about her arrest and her struggles to stay sober.
It's been nearly two weeks since Kim Richards was arrested in Los Angeles for public intoxication and other charges—and now the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star is speaking out about the incident and how she's been struggling to stay sober.
"It was a good size [drink]," Kim says about how much she consumed before her arrest on April 16, in a televised interview with Dr. Phil that aired Tuesday. "I'm not denying that I was wrong."
Kim said during the interview that she's been sober for over three years, but she admitted, "I did have drinks a few other times over the last few months," she says, clarifying that she did not drink on the show. "It was wine. I was ashamed to say anything at the [RHOBH] reunion. I was embarassed."
Kim also opened up about her relationship with sister Kyle Richards in recent months. "It's been a bad year for us," she said, before admitting that she hopes to make amends. "I don't want to fight with her."
Despite her arrest at the Beverly Hills Hotel, Kim apologized for her actions. "I'm beating myself up over this," she said. "I feel the worst for my kids because they've been through a lot with this."
During the interview, Dr. Phil offered to send Kim to a rehabilitation facility nearby. Kim said she was having "a lot of anxiety" and walked out of the room, where she was surrounded by her children, Chad, Brooke, and Kimberly. "You can forget this whole thing," she was heard saying. "I'm leaving. He totally put me on the spot in front of all those people."
Later on, Kim met with Dr. Phil again and said he provided a lot for her "to digest."
Kim was arrested at the Beverly Hills Hotel on April 16. She was charged with public intoxication, trespassing, resisting an officer and battery on a police officer, according to a statement released by the Beverly Hills Police Department. She is due to appear at LAX Superior Court in early June, according to a statement release by police at the time of her arrest.
