Katie Maloney Reacts to Schwartz & Sandy's Closing: "I Have an Idea..."
Vanderpump Rules' Katie Maloney weighed in on "what's next" for her ex-husband Tom Schwartz after the closing of the bar/restaurant he owns with Tom Sandoval.
After two years of business, Vanderpump Rules' Tom Sandoval and Tom Schwartz announced they will close their restaurant/bar, Schwartz and Sandy's, next month. Following the news, numerous Bravolebrities shared their reactions, including Tom Schwartz's ex-wife, Katie Maloney, who had a suggestion for him.
"I have an idea...[it] rhymes with Katie Maloney's bar and grill," Katie joked in the comments section of Tom Schwartz's Instagram post which featured his statement on the closing. "JUST KIDDING. I'm looking forward to what's next for you."
As Bravo fans may recall, Katie revealed on Vanderpump Rules how taxing the opening and running of Schwartz & Sandy's was on her marriage to Tom Schwartz. In Season 10, Episode 2, Katie explained, "This bar has a very complicated history. It put a massive strain on our relationship. It just was a lot more of a presence in my life than I thought it would be without me having a say over it."
Additionally, in the clip above from the Vanderpump Rules After Show, Tom Schwartz took "full responsibility" for the breakdown of his and Katie's marriage as Tom Sandoval suggested, "Maybe the bar [Schwartz & Sandy's], a little bit."
Tom Schwartz agreed. "It was so f-cking demanding, unrelenting, opening the bar," he said. "I became absorbed in that world. I wish I could have done things differently, been there for her more, but man, it just was f-cking insane."
Other Bravolebrities react to Schwartz & Sandy's closing
In addition to Katie, The Valley's Brittany Cartwright expressed her condolences for Schwartz & Sandy's closing, reiterating, "We love you!" while Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles' Josh Altman affirmed, "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take. Onward and upward brother. Keep punching."
Tom Schwartz commented on Josh's encouraging message, writing, "[A]ppreciate this so much."
Moreover, Summer House's Kyle Cooke said Tom Schwartz and Tom Sandoval's business effort was "something to be proud of" as he praised the "blood, sweat, and tears" they put into the venture. "The biggest regret of all would have been not trying in the first place," the Loverboy CEO stated.
Scheana Shay also noted how "sorry" she was to hear of the news. "I know you gave this your absolute ALL and you should be so proud of that! This place was beyond the coolest aesthetic in all of LA," she commented.
Andy Cohen also shared his sadness on Tom Sandoval's Instagram post with his statement, writing, "I'm so bummed about this for you guys."
Why is Schwartz & Sandy's closing?
In his Instagram statement, Tom Sandoval noted that "other priorities and commitments" led to the decision to close Schwartz & Sandy's.
Additionally, in a November 25 interview with PEOPLE, Tom Schwartz shared more details about why they decided to shut down their business. “Deciding to close was one of the hardest decisions we’ve made,” he told the publication. “We agonized over it for quite some time because we truly believe it’s a great bar, still ripe with potential.”
He added: “Unfortunately, the current climate for this business is pretty rough. Recovering from all the negativity post-scandal wasn’t easy, and the slimmer margins post-COVID made it even harder to bounce back. There’s not a lot of room for error in the restaurant/bar business."
Further in his Instagram statement, Tom Sandoval reflected on what opening and running the business meant to him.
"To our incredible staff and everyone who supported us along the way, you deserve the true recognition," he concluded. "I can't thank you enough for your endless commitment to making Schwartz & Sandy's a place of everlasting memories."
