Karen Huger's Lawyer Speaks Out After She's Found Guilty of DUI
An attorney for RHOP's Karen Huger released a statement about the decision.
Karen Huger has been found guilty on multiple counts after charges were filed related to driving under the influence in Maryland in March.
Karen's lawyer, A. Scott Bolden, released a statement to People on Dec. 18 after the jury reached their verdict. "Although we are disappointed in the jury’s verdict, we of course respect their decision and appreciate their time hearing our case," he stated.
"We continue to reserve Mrs. Huger’s right to an appeal and intend to fully pursue justice on her behalf," the attorney added. "We appreciate your support and prayers for Mrs. Huger and her family at this time."
The Real Housewives of Potomac cast member was specifically charged with a DUI and DWI (driving while intoxicated), as well as other charges related to reckless driving, speeding, driving with suspended registration, and not reporting a change of address to the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration.
She was found guilty on all charges except for driving recklessly. Karen's trial began on Tuesday, December 17, and it concluded after two days.
Karen is scheduled to be sentenced on January 29, 2025.
What Karen Huger revealed about her car accident on RHOP Season 9
Filming for RHOP Season 9 commenced after Karen's accident occurred, but before her trial began. On the show, she shared that marital issues with husband Ray Huger and the 2017 loss of both of her parents had led to an emotional night for her when she got into the accident.
“We are going through a lot. And I can’t blame him for any of it,” Karen said to castmate Gizelle Bryant on the Season 9 premiere, which aired in October. “And I blame myself for not speaking up before now. I need him to be there emotionally, so whatever he’s capable of doing, I’m just asking for the emotional support.”
In an interview on the premiere episode, Karen further opened up about what she was experiencing.
“I think everything that I’m going through contributed to my accident. Grief. Marriage problems,” the mom of two continued. "Everything has something to do with where I’m at emotionally right now which was the state I was in during that incident."
Though she felt like she was supportive of Ray when the two experienced financial issues, she said it didn't feel like it was reciprocated when she lost her parents back to back.
"I held Ray down when he went through what he went through,” Karen said to Gizelle at their lunch out. "Mommy passes. Seven months later, I buried my father. I never really took care of me."
