Juliet Angus Opens Up About Her Family's Challenging Journey to America
"I can't imagine how difficult that was," the #LadiesOfLondon stylist said of her parents' emigration.
Just when you think you know everything about the Ladies of London cast, Juliet Angus went and revealed even more of her past this season. The style blogger opened up about her parents' emigration from Poland to the United States when her mother Bernadette visited her in London.
Juliet said she enjoyed the opportunity to share this intimate moment with Ladies of London fans. "I've gotten a great response from that. The more I let people know the background of where I was from, the more they feel connected to you," she told The Daily Dish after the episode aired. "It's actually nice to watch. I was kind of like, oh, that's so sweet. That is my life."
Juliet's parents went after the American dream after leaving their home country of Poland.
During the episode, Juliet reminisced about what it was like growing up in Chicago while still having strong roots to her parents' home country, such as learning English as a second language and attending Polish school six days a week. Her children, Georgina and Truman, even call Juliet's mom Babcia today, which means "grandmother" in Polish. "I just appreciate everything they've done and how hard that must have been, not even speaking the language," Juliet said of her parents settling in America. "I went to a country that spoke the same language as me (although a lot of people like to think I still don't speak the same language). It was much, much easier for me to make that transition, so I thank my parents, because I can't imagine how difficult that was."
Like mother, like daughter. It looks like Juliet's mom was a fashionista, too.
Of course, Juliet, who also grew up traveling to Europe with her mom, sees similarities between what her parents went through and her own move to London with her husband, Gregor Angus, after they had made a life for themselves in Montreal, Canada. "It's just interesting. I'm living kind of what my family did," she said. "Of course, it was a much smoother transition for me. My parents came with one suitcase. I came with a boat full of the whole entire house. It's a little bit different circumstance, but I am mirroring a little bit."
