New Real Housewife Jenna Lyons Reveals Why Photographers Were Screaming Her Name at the Met Gala
Style icon and new Bravolebrity Jenna Lyons knows glamor when she wears it — and when she sees it. See what she had to say while reporting on the 2023 Met Gala.
The Met Gala, the sublime and unrivaled fashion event of the year, unfurled on May 1 this year. Designer and style icon Jenna Lyons, of course, was there.
Lyons, who has joined the Season 14 cast of The Real Housewives of New York City, was on the scene with a panel of glamor gurus to share her insights and recollections for Live From E!: The Met Gala 2023.
Lyons' own lewks (like satin and denim, circa 2014!) have left indelible fashion impressions at seven previous Met Galas. It’s always an unforgettable event, she said.
“I have to say it will never get old,” she told her fellow panelists Zanna Roberts Rassi, Zuri Hall, and Jonathan Van Ness. “It’s one of the most magical nights. You just kind of black out.”
Dressed in a black suit with structured blazer that she paired with a sheer white top, Lyons recalled a Met Gala where photographers were screaming her name repeatedly.
“I thought that they were wanting to take my picture,” she said. “I realized that they just wanted me to move because Rihanna was behind me.”
One of her fellow glamor gurus chimed in with astonishment: “Are you telling me you were photobombed by Riri?”
This year's theme, “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” celebrated the late Chanel designer’s legacy. Chanel looks were here, there, and everywhere as celebs arrived at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
“What I love about the whole night, honestly, is what we’re getting to celebrate the stars,” said Lyons. “But it's also a night to celebrate the clothes.”
And who knows clothes better than Anna Wintour — the event co-chair and Vogue Editor in Chief who arrived on the arm of Oscar nominee Bill Nighy.
Wintour got the E! telecast off to a chic Chanel start in a gown that had been shown in Paris in January. “She’s always classic and always very tailored,” marveled Lyons. “She doesn't go over the top. I think what I love about this is the level of embroidery.”
Oscar winner Nicole Kidman’s arrival in a pink dress adorned with feathers that she wore in 2004 for a Chanel No. 5 advertising campaign inspired Lyons for a couple of reasons: “What I love is the little bow at the back of her hair, and just how delicate that is.”
And these fluttery feathers also sparked a memory.
“If anyone has ever worn feathers, they [know they] can get quite warm,” she said, adding that she experienced that at her Met Gala debut.
“It was my first time. I was really excited about being there. I got up to the top of the stairs and I turned around and I realized that there were 15 interns picking up feathers," she recalled.
As other celebrities arrived in gowns that could molt in similar fashion, Lyons later exclaimed, “I’m having feather flashbacks!”
We’re looking forward to what Lyons will bring to the mix of The Real Housewives of New York City when it premieres July 16 on Bravo.
