Hugh Acheson Breaks Down 'Plates': Chaz Is a 'Weiner,' Nookie's a Genius

The famed chef dissects last night's Morocco episode of 'Around the World in 80 Plates.'

By Mike Hess

Just in case you didn't catch last night's episode of Around the World in 80 Plates, boy did you miss out. The crew made their way through Morocco in by far the most exotic locale and mission yet -- leaving our guest blogger Hugh Acheson fiesty and quick to resort to name-calling in his recap post.

Hugh seemed straight-up shocked that someone who goes by the moniker of "Nookie" could be the most worldly of the chef-contestants on Plates -- though the fact that Nookie's been to Morocco wasn't very nostalgic for the big fella. "Morocco freaks Nookie out. I think there is a warrant out for him in Marrakech for some mercenary work he did with the French secret service back in the mid '80s," Hugh jokes in his blog post. And just as quick as he is to poke fun at the Nookster, Hugh declares that he's got "a better strategic mind than anyone I have ever seen on a competitive cooking show." That's props coming from a Top Chef Masters front-runner.

Once tasked with making traditional Moroccan dishes, Hugh isn't very impressed. "They all suck at making tagines," he writes, but it's his assessment of the Chaz-Avery Beet-gate brouhaha that bears the best line of his post. "Chaz is convinced there is 'something personal' between him and Avery. No Chaz, you’re just being a weiner. Put your head down and cook." And just like that, said "weiner" was sent home.

Real Hugh's full recap of the episode on his blog, and in case you missed it, watch Chaz's exit interview below.
