Heather Reveals There's More to the Story of Her & Bronwyn's Showdown: “Total Hypocrite”

Heather Gay and Bronwyn Newport share new details about their ongoing feud during the RHOSLC After Show.

By Sophie Vilensky

Following a very tense argument on The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City Season 5, Episode 7, Heather Gay and Bronwyn Newport are sharing new details about their drama.

Bronwyn invited Heather to her house on the October 30 episode in an attempt to mend their relationship, which got off to a rocky start when Heather took issue with the way Bronwyn spoke about other members of the group. The two struggled to see eye-to-eye during their conversation, and after a bit of back-and-forth, Heather left, stating, "This is not the type of friendship I want to have."

So, what exactly went wrong? Allow them both to break that down in The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City After Show video above.

"When she invited me over, I knew me and Bronwyn needed to clear the air," explained Heather in the clip. "I was just hoping that she was going to basically apologize and explain that she was new in the group, she was figuring it out, and we could go on from there with a clean slate."

While Bronwyn was prepared to apologize, she also expected an apology in return for the way Heather had spoken to her.

"[Heather] really quizzed me on what I was apologizing for, and honestly, I didn't really know what I was apologizing for," Bronwyn said. "I was apologizing to pave the way for her apology. 'You give one to get one' kind of a thing."

Why was Heather Gay mad at Bronwyn Newport?

As for what sparked the tension, Heather explained in the video above that she "felt like [Bronwyn] was a total hypocrite" after a conversation she had with Bronwyn following Lisa Barlow's besos party.

"Bronwyn was mad that I had been listening to her talk mad sh-t on Meili [Workman], and Whitney [Rose], and  Britani [Bateman], and everyone else at that party," she said. "She was so clear in her opinions about these women."

After Heather concluded from the conversation that Bronwyn "hates" Whitney, she was surprised to hear from Whitney that Bronwyn had reached out to her to get together and was "so supportive."

By hanging out with Whitney, Heather felt Bronwyn was both betraying Lisa Barlow — who was in an argument with Whitney — and sending mixed messages. "She was being two-faced," Heather concluded.

Bronwyn Newport reflects on her argument with Heather Gay

As Heather and Brownyn struggled to agree during their conversation, Bronwyn wasn't optimistic about finding a resolution.

"She made me feel like she was looking for a reason to continue to be mad at me, and it made me feel kind of stumble-y in my own house, that this wasn't going to go the way I wanted it to," Bronwyn said in the video above. "I think I thought if I was open to reconciliation, she would be open to reconciliation."

As for Heather's claims that she gossiped about the other 'Wives, Bronwyn admitted that was true, but the rest of the group was doing the same.

"I don't love that Heather pins so much of it on just me and my mouth, when everyone's been engaging in it," Bronwyn added. "But I was willing to take responsibility for the things that I've said that maybe were hurtful."

Heather's issue with this? "I can talk trash about my friends. They're my friends!" Heather declared, adding that she felt a bit nervous about Bronwyn and Whitney's budding friendship.

"A person that can say and think those things about her is not someone who can the next day be their good friend," she stated. "I feel protective of Lisa ...I feel protective of Whitney."

Heather Gay reacts to not being invited on Bronwyn's Palm Springs trip

When the meeting got tense, Bronwyn explained to Heather that she was hopeful they could work things out ahead of a group trip she was planning to Palm Springs. As Heather explained in the in the After Show video below, that caught her off guard.

"I was in the middle of an audition, which I was not prepared for," said Heather. "Why would you invite someone to work on your friendship and then let them know, 'I've also planned a girls' trip that you're not included on?'"

"The stakes are a little bit higher than us just having a clean slate moving forward," she continued. "Now you're here at my house, and I'm gonna dangle this trip and say, like, 'Listen, if you can say the right things, and do the right things, and convince me that you're gonna be — I don't know what she wanted me to convince her of, otherwise I might've done it just to go on the trip."

Why didn't Bronwyn Newport invite Heather Gay on her Palm Springs trip?

Meanwhile, Bronwyn explained in her After Show interview below that she hadn't intended to make their meeting about the trip.

"When she came over, I tried to apologize and work it out. It wasn't going well, and so I said, 'Look, the bottom line is I'm taking everybody to Palm Springs, and I would like to invite you. But I think we have to fix it first. And if you don't come, we'll never fix it. And she took that as she had to come kiss the ring at my house," she said.

"I got really spicy and I cancelled her plane ticket in one fell swoop," she added. "I was frustrated because it is hard for me to admit also when I'm wrong. And I tried, and I tried to, like you would a child, teach them the way, model the way. I tried to apologize, so it almost felt worse."

She continued: "If she's saying something she doesn't know about me — I'm a gold digger or Todd needed a prenup — I can brush that off. But when she came into my home and I made an effort and it wasn't good enough, that does hurt. That does cut deeper."

Does Heather Gay regret how she handled her argument with Bronwyn Newport?

Though she holds her ground, Heather admits she "didn't handle it great" in the meeting with Brownyn.

"I was pissed. These are my friends," she explained in the video below. "You're coming into this group, you're trying to make friends with everyone, you're preaching, 'I'm just a woman of love and inclusivity. But I'm going to plan a trip and invite everyone except for you.'"

"I'm the hub of the goddamn friendship wheel. Bitch, who are you?" she continued. "I don't have to sit here and tell you my weaknesses and my faults and my failings in friendships. My friends know. They know that I'm a hot mess. But we've been through it together, and I'm not here to mea culpa you. Like, you want to make a move and go on a girls' trip without me? Own that move, but don't make me do a little song and dance and then still get rejected. I'm pissed about this."
