Hear James Kennedy's Hot New Record
Kristen Doute's boyfriend teams with Mike Shay for 'BLITZ'
Throw your dubs up!
On the new season of Vanderpump Rules, fans are getting to know Kristen Doute's new boyfriend James Kennedy, a staffer at SUR.
But he's got ambitions beyond the food services industry—he's a musician too, and on his new EP, BLITZ, he's serving up a four-track set of club-ready anthems, with production help from Scheana Marie's husband Mike Shay. Hear the songs, including the dub-step-inspired anthem "Throw Your Dubs Up," below.
James says he began work on the record six months ago—and he knew exactly what he wanted it to sound like. "I wanted to make songs that were relevant now but also had that 'radio feel,'" he says. "When it comes down to it, having a catchy hook in the chorus of any track is going to give the song a certain vibe. I wanted to provide that vibe with an explosion following."
Last season on Vanderpump Rules, Kristen made the bombshell revelation that she was in love with James, who also happened to be collaborating on music with her ex Tom Sandoval. It seems as if James is content to pursue music on his own. "I feel like [Tom] was completely fixated on the fact he had songs that he wrote over a decade ago and expected me to basically produce them for him," he told the Examiner. "It was a DUO not a single act…it was about us creating something new and original, not something that sounded like a horrible '80s band."
