Gigi Hadid on Yolanda: She's Going Through a Lot

The supermodel speaks out on her mom's battle with Lyme disease.

Supermodel Gigi Hadid is mega-hot right now, landing herself runways shows, magazine covers, and even a coveted contract as the new face of Maybelline. But despite her busy schedule, the 19-year-old always makes time to reach out to her mom, Yolanda Foster, who has spent the past three years fighting Lyme disease.

"We try to call her and FaceTime her with what's going on and keep her feeling like she's not too far away," Gigi, who counts New York as her home base these days, told Us Weekly. (Yolanda has been in Asia receiving treatment.) "It [lifts her spirits]. I think that she kind of looks forward to it. Right now she's going through a lot, so even a little FaceTime once in a while helps."

Indeed, Yolanda recently revealed that her disease has taken a devastating turn for the worst. "I have lost the ability to read, write, or even watch TV, because I can't process information or any stimulation for that matter," she wrote on her most recent BravoTV.com blog post. "It feels like someone came in and confiscated my brain and tied my hands behind my back to just watch and see life go by without me participating in it."

Despite the hardships, Yolanda remains determined to help find a cure both for herself and for others affected by the neurological disease. She is currently traveling the world in search of alternate medical options. "As tired and hopeless as I feel at times, I have an undeniable spirit that will continue to fight and travel the world until I have the proper answers," she wrote. "I keep reminding myself that I was given this task for a greater purpose, which keeps me driven and motivated to think outside the box to make a difference not only for myself but for all my fellow Lymies suffering some form of this debilitating disease that we know so little about."
