As people around the world gather in protest in the wake of George Floyd's death, Mariah, along with her son Ethan, 13, and daughter Lauren, 15, joined fellow protestors outside of her boutique in downtown McDonough, Georgia. "Peaceful protest in McDonough GA yesterday!" Mariah shared on Instagram. "People of all ages from all walks of life joined the cause."

The post included a photo of Ethan and Lauren standing beside a fellow peaceful protestor, Gabby Marrero, as they held signs featuring messages of support for the Black Lives Matter movement.

“I never imagined that my children would be protesting the same racial injustice that our ancestors fought hard against years ago," Mariah told The Daily Dish. "It's really sad that this is today's climate, but we are standing today so they can have a better tomorrow, and so they Always know that Their lives matter, we Matter!”

Mariah has long been active in working toward bettering her community. She was presented with the Ruby Hurley Humanitarian of the Year Award by Reverend Al Sharpton for her civic and community leadership in her hometown of Chattanooga, Tennessee at the 32nd Annual NAACP Ruby Hurley Image Awards in November 2019.
