Fredrik Eklund: How I'm Helping the Homeless
The 'MDLNY' star hopes to "change the world" with a new charity housing initiative.
Million Dollar Listing New York broker Fredrik Eklund is one of the most recognizable and successful faces in Big Apple real estate. But what some of his high-profile clients might not know is what efforts he takes to help those less fortunate.
Fredrik revealed Tuesday details of a new campaign he's working on, which hopes to find homes for those who can't afford one.
"I've sold a lot of real estate in my life, but perhaps the most important residence for sale is Korolenka Street in Ukraine," he shared on Instagram. "In this new campaign, all my offices and our clients help the over 100 million homeless and abandoned children living on the streets. Working with @sosbarnbyar to try to change the world a small step at a time."
He further elaborated that others can get involved by visiting his agency's website. "For only $60 you can buy a home for a child," he said. "A child that needs our help, especially in cold Holiday times."
The campaign caps off a busy year for Fredrik, who just last month shared that his Douglas Elliman team had more commissions in 2014 than any other team in the company's entire 103-year history. Of course, when he shared the news, he made sure to give a little shout out to his husband, Derek Kaplan, in light of the accomplishment.
"He is just amazing giving me business guidance in all of this and the charities we support, so down to earth and grounded when it comes to the larger, difficult decisions, you know the ones that really make us propel to the next level (always challenging in the moment but define us long term)," he said. "But most of all thanks to New York, you crazy queen of all cities for making me continue realizing all my dreams with you."
