Former Glee Star Mark Salling Dead at Age 35
The actor reportedly died from an apparent suicide.
Mark Salling is dead at the age of 35 from an apparent suicide, TMZ reports. Law enforcement tells the site that the former Glee star's body was found near a riverbend in the area where he lived in Sunland, an area in L.A. county. Details about how he died have yet to be confirmed, but it appears he may have died by hanging. Us Weekly, E! News, and Entertainment Weekly also confirmed his passing after TMZ broke the news.
The actor’s lawyer, Michael J. Proctor, said in a statement, “I can confirm that Mark Salling passed away early this morning. Mark was a gentle and loving person, a person of great creativity, who was doing his best to atone for some serious mistakes and errors of judgment. He is survived by his mother and father, and his brother. The Salling family appreciates the support they have been receiving and asks for their privacy to be respected.”
The news of his death comes before a sentencing that was scheduled for this March in connection with a case in which he pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography involving a prepubescent minor. He had upwards of 50,000 images of underage children, according to prosecutors. He faced four to seven years in prison as part of a plea deal.
Salling was born and raised in Texas, graduating from Lake Highlands High School in 2001, attending school alongside singer/songwriter St. Vincent. He moved to Los Angeles to attend the Music Academy College of Music in Pasadena. In addition to work as a musician, he was best known for his role as Noah "Puck" Puckerman on Glee. He left the series as a full-time cast member in 2013, and was made a recurring character on the show.
