Exclusive: Rosie Pope Weighs In On 'Time' Breastfeeding Cover
The 'Pregnant in Heels' mom says at 2 years old, "it's better to stop."
It was the magazine cover seen 'round the world last week, as Time Magazine unleashed their controversial breast-feeding issue with a jarring image of a mother feeding her 3-year-old son, prompting arguments on all sides of the issue. Thankfully, Rosie Pope, the new mom and star of Pregnant in Heels stopped by the Bravo offices just 2 days before giving birth to her new daughter Vivienne, and she weighed in on the issue.
Pope told us that while the image was shocking and got people talking like Time surely wanted, "this is just not that unusual in many countries around the world. It is pretty unusual in the United States."
So what's suggested when it comes to breast-feeding? Rosie's got the facts: "As far as nutrition and the immune system goes, what they recommend -- the World Health Organization recommends two years, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends one year of breast feeding. After that, you tend to get most of your nutrition from food, so breast-feeding then becomes more about bonding between the mother and the child. You have to ask yourself in the culture that you live in, 'Is it better for the child to be still breast feeding when they're at school or playing soccer or doing these other things, or are there other ways?'"
Finally, Rosie gives her own personal opinion regarding the Time cover and the three-year-old: "It's a personal choice, but I would say probably by this point, it's better to stop."
Be sure to tune in to the premiere of Pregnant in Heels' second season tonight at 10/9c, and enjoy an exclusive video of Rosie's crib below:
