The Dirty John True Crime Podcast Is Becoming an Anthology Series on Bravo
Get ready for a "chillingly relatable story of love, manipulation, and survival."
Some of the most incredible stories are coming from podcasts these days. Now one of the buzziest podcasts of 2017 is about to captivate TV audiences, too.
Bravo has greenlit a two-season, straight-to-series order for the scripted anthology series Dirty John. The true crime series, based on the articles and popular podcast Dirty John from Los Angeles Times reporter Christopher Goffard, will be written and executive produced by Alexandra Cunningham (Chance, Desperate Housewives).
Dirty John, which arrived as a podcast in October 2017, chronicled the real-life story of how Debra Newell's whirlwind romance with the charismatic John Meehan turned into a dark tale of deceit, manipulation, and survival for her whole family. Season 1 will focus on that story, while Season 2 will be a different self-contained story, the details of which are to be announced at a later date.
A companion docuseries investigating the real "Dirty John" John Meehan and told through those whose lives he upended will air on Oxygen. “The story of Dirty John is uniquely fit for both the Bravo & Oxygen brands,” said Frances Berwick, President, Lifestyle Networks, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment, in a statement. “For the Bravo audience, it’s a chillingly relatable story of love, manipulation and survival that dovetails nicely with our other original scripted series Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce and Imposters. For Oxygen, it joins a roster of exclusive access, high-stakes premium content that the network is becoming known for among true crime enthusiasts.”
