What?! Southern Charm Savannah's Catherine Cooper Is Related to an Oscar Winner
It'll make so much sense once you hear who it is.
The Southern Charm Savannah crew's ancestors include signers of the Declaration of Independence, beauty pageant queens, and a founder of the city's first synagogue. And we just discovered that they count an Oscar winner among them, too.
Catherine Cooper's uncle is Chris Cooper, famous for his roles in films like American Beauty, October Sky, The Bourne Identity, and Seabiscuit. He also won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2003 for his turn in Adaptation. "Every time I see him, I get so giddy. He’s done so many incredible different movies. He’s won an Oscar," Catherine recently told The Daily Dish. "He’s the real deal."
Catherine witnessed her uncle's Tony-nominated turn as Torvald in A Doll's House Part 2 on Broadway while visiting New York City last week. "My brother, my mom, my sister, my nephew have all flown in this morning. So we’re gonna go see him tonight," Catherine told The Daily Dish last week. "And we’re gonna go backstage and get to see a real star. So, very excited."
Unfortunately, busy schedules don't permit Catherine and her uncle to see each other "all that often," but she said they get together about once a year or two. Catherine recalled the whole family spending about 10 to 15 days together in Kansas City, Missouri when her grandmother, the mother of Chris and Catherine's dad, Chuck, passed away a couple of years ago. "Even though it was under those circumstances, it was really great to be with the whole family under one roof. Because I always see my Savannah family, and I’ve got a huge family there, so it was really special to have that time with everybody and just seeing my dad and his brother interact," Catherine shared. "They’re very funny together."
But Catherine said that now that her dad has gotten a taste of the spotlight by appearing on Southern Charm Savannah, he may be craving more of it in the future. "My dad’s loving it. He’s wanted to be an actor for forever," Catherine said of what her family thinks of the show. "As y’all have seen, he’s so natural and normal and he’s just, he loves it."
In fact, Catherine said her whole family has been supportive of her time on Southern Charm Savannah — even Uncle Chris. "In the beginning, my parents were the ones that were like, 'You should do this,'" Catherine said. "They love it, and they’ve been so supportive. I’m thankful for them, very thankful. Got my back."
