Captain Glenn Makes a Big Declaration About Chef Cloyce: “At This Point…”
Captain Glenn Shephard wasn't pleased with his young chef's consistency during Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5, Episode 13.
Captain Glenn Shephard and chef Cloyce Martin are continuing to have issues during Season 5 of Below Deck Sailing Yacht. And if you're thinking, "Isn't it kind of late in the season for these problems to still be coming up?" Yes — and that's part of the issue.
"Cloyce is being consistent in his inconsistencies," said the Captain in a confessional at the very end of Episode 13 after yet another dinner debacle left guests disappointed. "And at this point in the season, I need someone I can depend on."
During their first dinner onboard Parsifal III, the latest group of guests weren't entirely pleased with their meal. They found the first-course croquette a little too fried — it's a cheese stick with aioli, one said — before asking Daisy Kelliher if anything besides "a cheese stick" was coming.
(While she agreed fried cheese is delicious, she said that maybe they were looking for something else while on a super yacht in Ibiza.)
The next course, an arugula salad with brûléed goat cheese, went over a little better, but they weren't pleased to wait for their mains — which were coming out late thanks to the smoker running out of battery in the kitchen.
"Guys, we gotta go," said Captain Glenn while watching multiple crew members try to fire it up.
And yet, the time kept ticking on.
To be fair, Cloyce didn't leave the greatest first impression with the guests.
After arriving on the boat, they complained that their fresh fruit tasted garlic-y — as if the cutting board hadn't been changed between alliums and apples.
Though he said the situation was strange, Cloyce did eventually admit that he'd cut an onion a couple hours earlier on the exact same board.
When they were presented a new plate of fruit, cut with a new knife and board, they said it tasted perfectly fine.

Throughout the season, Captain Glenn has made multiple comments about Cloyce's skills. While he often knocks it out of the park, there have been many challenges.
On Episode 3, for example, Cloyce chose to hang out with the guests instead of prepping for lunch. When they came back from their excursion hungry, they had to wait for their meal because of his decision ... which led them to say they probably wouldn't return.
"He's gotta understand he's here for a purpose. He's not a guest," Glenn said while assessing the situation. "I like strong people around me that I can trust. And right now, I'm starting to worry. What's he thinking?"
