Ben Affleck Breaks His Silence on Jennifer Garner Split
The Batman star shares his own thoughts on the break-up after his ex's revealing Vanity Fair interview.
Jennifer Garner didn't hold back when speaking to Vanity Fair last month, touching on everything from whether her divorce from Ben Affleck was caused by his cheating with the nanny to her real feelings about that phoenix back tattoo. Now, it's Ben's turn to spill the tea. While the actor says he doesn't usually address his private life “because it ends up being in the record somewhere, in the great miasma of junk on the Internet," he did open up about the comments Jen made in the magazine following their 2015 break-up.
"She felt like she wanted to discuss it and get it out there and get it over with, so she could say, ‘Look, I already talked about it — I don’t want to do it again,'" Ben told The New York Times. “It’s fine. She’s allowed to talk about it.”
Ben also had some praise for his ex, with whom he has three children, Violet, Seraphina, and Samuel. He noted that Jen and their kids will come to visit him when he shoots Justice League in the spring and will travel around Europe as a family. “Jen’s great. She’s a great person. We’re on great terms," he said. "I just saw her this morning, so that’s the reality that I live in.”
For now, Ben is back on the press trail (his new movie Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice comes out later this month) and expecting questions about his personal life. "It never seems like a great time to have your privacy invaded. Obviously this is a particularly hard time."
Ben also commented on Ricky Gervais' Golden Globes joke that longtime friend and creative partner Matt Damon is "also the only person who Ben Affleck hasn’t been unfaithful to." “It’s the way Ricky Gervais perceives me, I suppose,” he said with a laugh, according to the NYT. “Whatever. I’ve had jokes made at my expense before. It’s part of the deal.”
