Nico Scholly Is Doing Something Very Special on the Anniversary of His Brother's Passing
"One day we’ll be united again but I feel him everyday still with me," he shared.
Nico Scholly's younger brother Tristen Scholly suddenly passed away one year ago at the age of 21. Now the Below Deck yachtie is doing something very special to honor his late brother.
Nico shared on Instagram that he will be traveling to Mexico to spread Tristen's ashes. "Can’t even believe how fast this year has passed. Every single day I think about this guy here. My brother and best friend," Nico captioned a photo of himself and his brother on Instagram. "Heading down to Mexico today to spread Tristens ashes in a place where he loved most. One day we’ll be united again but I feel him everyday still with me. Tristen gave the gift of life to five people and also tissue to three others. Truly a hero."
Tristen passed away in November 2016 after he fell three stories off of a balcony and hit his head. He had decided to donate his organs and Nico has already seen the impact of his brother's selfless act. "We got a letter recently from one of the organ recipients and he was in a wheelchair. And he had some flesh-eating bacteria in his lungs and he got my brother's lungs," Nico told The Daily Dish in September. "And now he's back to snorkeling, riding bikes in Chicago, and it changed his whole entire life, and he's nothing but grateful. So it's really important to me."
Nico has been all about family since this season of Below Deck ended. They launched the Tristen Scott Foundation after his brother's death to help other families whose loved ones chose to donate their organs. "Obviously, you take it day by day. We started a foundation in his name. You know, it's just looking at life kind of a different way. You kind of go through life, some bad things, some good things happen to you, and you kind of take it for granted. But when something like that happens, you have to just kind of realize what's important," Nico said said in an interview with The Daily Dish earlier this season. "So I've been spending time in Chicago, kind of took a little hiatus from yachting, and just trying to be around, hanging out with my family."
