Is Captain Sandy Yawn in a Relationship? The Below Deck Mediterranean Boss Dishes on Her Love Life
"It's hard to have a relationship being a yacht captain," the Talisman Maiton's fearless leader said.
The love lives of the Below Deck Mediterranean crew are a key part of the series. Every season, there's so much flirting, hooking up, and breaking up that goes on among the yachties and charter guests alike that we can barely keep up. But there's one member of the Below Deck Med crew whose romantic exploits we rarely get to hear about: Captain Sandy Yawn.
That all changes now as the Below Deck Med boss recently filled The Daily Dish in on her current relationship status. "I'm single," she shared. "It's hard to have a relationship being a yacht captain. And most of my friends that are yacht captains, they've divorced or they hook up with people in the industry, and so far I haven't met anyone, really. It's about the person for me."
As we've seen on Below Deck and Below Deck Med over the years, it can be difficult to maintain a relationship with not only a fellow crew member but also a significant other back home. "It's not hard for me; it's the other person doesn't get it because you're away and you're like, 'Fly to Europe. Fly here.' And they have a job they have to go to," Captain Sandy, who now resides in Los Angeles when she's not out on charter, explained. "You know, I have dated in L.A., and it was great so far. But the minute I went to Europe, it changed, it shifted. I believe that distance does not make the heart grow fonder; I think it just makes you forget. And they get jealous, and you can't talk because you're busy running the boat, and you're at sea. The cell phone reception is bad, and then on the flip side is when you feel lonely, and you want to talk to your person, and they're busy."
Captain Sandy said that she's never dated anyone in the yachting industry because it can become too "sticky" of a situation. But she's not too picky when it comes to finding a partner. "Crazy is a dealbreaker," Captain Sandy said. "I want someone who wakes up happy, just is happy to be alive. Like, that's how I wake up every day of my life. And yes, when there's something going on in your life, of course you don't wake up happy. But the majority of the time, someone who wants to live, wants to experience, wants to travel, wants to try different restaurants, wants to go see shows. And I love music. Someone who loves concerts because I am a concertgoer."
And let's face it: Who doesn't love Captain Sandy?
