Captain Sandy Yawn Recalls "The Most Volatile Crew Experience" She's Seen on Below Deck Med
The Below Deck Med boss reveals what she "didn't realize" about the Season 6 crew until she saw it on TV.
As Season 6 of Below Deck Mediterranean comes to a close, Captain Sandy Yawn reflected on some of its buzziest moments during her October 11 appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.
One of those actually occurred in the most recent episode of Below Deck Med, which aired on the same night of Captain Sandy's virtual visit to the Bravo Clubhouse. When host Andy Cohen asked Captain Sandy for her reaction to Mathew Shea's stressful breakfast service, the Below Deck Med boss said the moment really spoke to the chef's behavior this season as a whole.
"It explains a lot, you know, from the beginning of the season with him leaving and then quitting a second time. It just really shows the character," she said in the above clip. "You know, obviously, I don't see this. I don't go out with them. And then when I do [see it], it's wow. I just am blown away. I think that's been the most volatile crew experience I've ever witnessed watching a show."
Captain Sandy weighed in on more of Season 6's most dramatic moments during a game called "You've Yacht to Be Kidding Me!" on WWHL (clip below). Not only did she share what she "didn't realize" about the Lady Michelle crew until she saw it on TV, but she also seemed to discover something about deckhand Mzi Dempers for the first time during their appearance together on WWHL Monday night.
Even though there was quite a bit of conflict among the crew in Season 6, Captain Sandy said that she appreciated how they came together in challenging times, such as when Lloyd Spencer opened up about his sexuality. "That was beautiful. The crew were amazing this year, to be honest. It was probably the most happiest crew I've ever had," Captain Sandy shared. "They bonded from the very beginning. Yes, there were a couple that didn't, but, you know, overall they were just a happy crew. They gelled immediately. And watching that for me, especially knowing that I love women, that was awesome."
On WWHL, Captain Sandy also addressed why there "seemed to be a lot of tension between" her and Malia White this season. "There wasn't a lot of tension. It wasn't at all. It was just that one incident," Captain Sandy clarified in the below video, referring to her disagreement with the bosun after she didn't report David Pascoe's injury.
Captain Sandy went on to explain why she seemed to come down so hard on Malia in that moment. "Honestly, the reason I reacted so strongly is I'm invested in Malia," she said. "I overreacted, number one. Secondly, it was more personal to me than it was just a job because I invested my time in her, and I really care."
Not only did Captain Sandy look back on Season 6 during her time on WWHL, but she also reflected on all of her seasons as Below Deck Med's boss during the After Show, which you can check out, below.
