We couldn't imagine anyone other than Bette Midler playing the role of C.C. in Beaches. Well, that was until it was announced that Idina Menzel would be taking on the character in Lifetime's upcoming remake of the iconic tearjerker.

How to Watch

Tune in to WWHL on Bravo Sunday through Thursday and next day on Peacock. Catch up on the Bravo App.

Of course, fans of Beaches have been for and against Idina's casting. But let's be real. All we really care about is what the Divine Miss M thinks. "I don't know her that well, but she was kind enough to tweet, like, a blessing for me," Idina told one caller about her relationship with Bette since landing the role in Beaches.

Idina is referring to when Bette gave her seal of approval for the casting in August. "Can’t wait to see Idina Menzel as CC in Lifetime’s 'Beaches!'" she tweeted. "DON’T TELL ME THE ENDING!"

Those kind words meant a lot to Idina. "I was relieved and appreciated [it], because I was getting a lot of older gay gentlemen going like, 'Idina, we love you, but it's sacrilegious,'" Idina told Andy Cohen. "And so I called my agent and was like, 'I can't do it! People are just gonna hate me.'"

Well, we're certainly glad Idina decided to stick with the role because we can't wait to see her spin on this classic character.

But the musical theater maven had an interesting response when it came to who she would want to play Elphaba in the film adaptation of Wicked, which she famously originated in the Broadway production. Check out her candid answer, below.
