Ashley Darby Welcomes Her First Child with Husband Michael Darby
The Potomac Housewife's dream of becoming a mom has finally come true.
Ashley Darby's resume includes quite an impressive list of titles: wife, yoga expert, singer. But now Ashley is taking on one of her most important roles yet: mom.
The Real Housewives of Potomac cast member welcomed her first child, a boy, with husband Michael Darby, she announced on Instagram on Sunday, July 7. "I never thought this day would come. When I learned I was pregnant, I started thinking about when I'd feel the first kicks. Then, when I was feeling the flutters, I wanted to know when I'd finally start to show. After watching the bump grow, my mind went to birthing day (WILL THIS REALLY HAPPEN?!)," Ashley wrote in the post. "And when the day finally came that this sweet child came into our world, it felt like the sunniest day after a sky filled grey. The most sensational day of our shared life. Mickey and I are savoring every moment with our wonderful son."
In the announcement, Ashley shared a sweet photo of herself and Michael, in the hospital after welcoming their son to the world. The pic shows the new mom asleep in her hospital bed while Michael holds their little one.
After years of expressing her desire to start a family with Michael, Ashley confirmed to The Daily Dish in February that she was expecting her first child (Michael has two adult children from his first marriage). "I've always wondered what this would feel like - carrying a being inside of my body - but actually being pregnant is more incredible than I could have imagined,” Ashley announced her happy news in a statement to The Daily Dish. “Through all of our past heartbreak, this is the most incredible gift we could ever receive."
Michael took to the skies to announce that he and Ashley were expecting a baby boy in May with an epic gender reveal via sky diving. The couple took a more traditional approach to their baby shower in June while surrounded by loved ones at the gorgeous event, including most members of the RHOP squad.
Ashley's road to motherhood hasn't been easy. Whether it was putting her baby plans on hold while she opened a restaurant or working through some issues in her marriage, Ashley struggled to find the right time to start a family with Michael, as we saw on RHOP over the years.
But Ashley and Michael faced one of the most difficult challenges in their relationship yet when they suffered a miscarriage and lost their child two weeks into the pregnancy. “It was such a traumatic experience,” Ashley said of the loss during an interview with PEOPLE in February. “At the time, I didn’t fully understand the magnitude of how it would affect us as a couple and as individuals because we kind of thought it would be a given that we would just be able to have children. But it was challenging.”
Ashley added, "It really did bond us on another level, thankfully."
