Was Angie Being “Shady” with Her $200 Haircare Gift for Meredith? “I Mean…” (EXCLUSIVE)
RHOSLC's Angie Katsanevas revealed the truth behind her decision to gift Meredith Marks shampoo for "dry and damaged" hair.
Angie Katsanevas is sharing new details on her gift to Meredith Marks that wasn't well received.
On Season 5, Episode 13 of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, Angie gave Meredith a present of fancy Kérastase shampoo to celebrate her Bat Mitzvah — a gift that Meredith ultimately found rude. But was Angie really trying to be shady? Some 'Wives think so ... even though she denies it.
After finding out that the bottle mentioned "dry, damaged hair," Bronwyn Newport agreed that the gift was indeed backhanded. "Is that what the bottle said? Oh God. OK, well, that's shady," Bronwyn said in The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City After Show video above. "That's a shady gift,"
However, Whitney Rose claimed that copy is on all Kérastase products. And according to Angie herself, she didn't even know it was there in the first place when she decided to gift the two $100 bottles of product.
"I mean, that's hilarious. And actually that would've been some good shade and I wish I was that funny. But it was actually not intentional," the hairstylist said. "Any time you color your hair, as a beauty expert in the beauty industry for 30 years, you want a product that is for dry and damaged hair. I didn't say she looked dry and damaged."
Whitney also said that Angie is always gifting her products to help keep her blonde hair healthy and tackle her split ends. Mary Cosby echoed this, saying she uses the exact same shampoo that Meredith was upset about.
"I guess I have dry and damaged hair, too. Angie's given me shampoo," Bronwyn added. "Sometimes the truth hurts. Angie's a professional, maybe Meredith did need some extra — I don't know."
"If you look at the retail value of that shampoo, it's a very nice gift," offered Whitney.
Meredith Marks Slams Angie Katsanevas' Haircare Gift
Despite all the chatter about what her hair might need, Meredith said the gift wasn't thoughtful at all ... because she couldn't use it, anyway.
"The reality is, if your gift was thoughtful, you would've given me a sulfate-free shampoo because I have keratin in my hair," she said. "By the way, I don't care what Angie thinks of my hair. And if this is her big deal gift that she's crying about, then keep it. It's fine. Leave me alone on the gifts. I don't care about that."
"I don't hold nice things that I do for people over their head, either," she continued. "If I do something with kindness, it's because my intent is out of kindness. Not to see what I can get in return. It's not tit for tat. I don't operate that way."
Angie Katsanevas Calls Out Meredith Marks for Returning Her Gift
Unsurprisingly, Angie had some more thoughts on how the situation went down. Before alleging that Meredith was "reaching for something to be offended about," she said the scene ultimately had to do with personal branding.
"Oh, God. Meredith, just looking always for a desperate merch moment, takes my journal that I gave her out of the bag that says Lunatic Fringe, which it came in with the gift bag with product, and she put it in a Brooks Marks bag. And it was sitting on my seat when I arrived to dinner," recalled Angie.
Ultimately, she said that returning the gift was "so offensive and so childish."

The other ladies had thoughts on the matter as well. "It's a real statement to return a gift. You're really saying something," Bronwyn said. And Whitney agreed: "Just accept the gift! I mean, it's Kérastase shampoo and conditioner. It's really nice," she explained.
However, it's not the first time that Meredith chose this path. Mary shared that the jewelry designer also returned her gift from her Breakfast at Tiffany's party. But instead of leaving it for her at dinner, she put it in an Uber.
"You know, I think Meredith didn't want the gift because I think what she really wanted was an apology from Angie and Shawn [Trujillo]," Lisa Barlow said. "And then I understand, like, Angie was crying outside of her Bat Mitzvah and was like, 'I brought her a gift.'"
"So? She brought me a gift," responded Britani Bateman, referencing the time Angie brought a bottle of wine to her Mormon party. "We know how well that goes."
