A Tip From 'Charlie's Angels'
Jaclyn Smith's tips for curly hair... fit for an angel.
What did today's challenge teach us about what we should do when going to a new salon?
You need to connect to your client and your client needs to connect with you. As a stylist you should take in not only the shape of her face and the texture of her hair, but also her lifestyle so it's something the client can re-create. You never want to make a client a slave to her haircut.
How many steps should it take to do your hair?
The simpler, the better. I don't want to use a lot of products. I don't want to be a slave to my hair.
How many products should one use?
That is up to the individual. I do believe in conditioning -- a deep conditioner once a month.
Were you surprised by Charlie?
He is so confident and always has a game plan. One thing I found fascinating about Charlie is that he had a celebrity or iconic image for all his haircuts. In this challenge he didn't have any inspiration behind it.
Were you upset that Meredith didn't thank you?
I am upset that the experience wasn't rewarding. This is an amazing time to spend time with the best of the best in the business. Stylists have the opportunity to learn more from the top hairstylists here than they will anywhere else. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that they should value. It's a bonus in their careers.
Do you have any final words for Meredith?
It was very difficult for me to see you eliminated. I know that you will have a bright career.
Do you have any recommendations for people with curly hair?
When I was on Charlie's Angels, I wrapped my hair in two curlers, wrapped my hair around my head and used it as a roller, and then put it under a portable hair dryer. It gives it a sleek, shiny look. Another choice is to go with your natural texture, which is a quicker and easier way. You need to find a shampoo that works best with your hair. You should use a hair cream that brings out the shine, which is important in curly hair.
