How Long Have Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom Been Keeping Their Relationship Secret?
It's time for an investigative report.
Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom made their rekindled romance red carpet official this week when they appeared together on the step and repeat at the Gala for the Global Ocean in Monaco. After breaking up in March 2017 after a year of dating, they've been spotted together throughout this year but hadn't really commented on their status until showing up for this photo opp, which usually communicates "couplehood" to people. And, now that we're looking back, Katy's one-time beau Josh Groban might have let their status slip a few days early when he mentioned that both he and Katy are in new relationships now.
Katy took to her Instagram Stories to post a couple of cute videos of Orlando getting ready, one captioned with a chocolate chip emoji where she says he's a "chocolate chip off the old block" and one soundtracked by Sir Mix-A-Lot's "Baby Got Back" captioned, "Let me touch ur butt."
This may seem like a new openness, but Katy and Orlando's public playfulness has been going on for a few months. Let's investigate!
In March, Katy commented on a shirtless pic that Orlando posted, "Oh hey! I was actually looking for a washboard to do me laundry on." The next month, Katy posted a video to her Instagram Stories that showed her posing with a picture of Orlando holding a broom captioned "Orlando Broom." In it, she called herself "Mrs. Broom," leading to speculation that the two might have reignited their romance.
"No, I'm sorry I have been spoken for and speak for myself," she replied when Entertainment Tonight asked her about it on the set of American Idol. "And I'm very happy!"
"You're spoken for right now?" ET asked, to which she said, "Yeah, girl, of course I am!"
"Are you a Mrs. Broom?"
"No, I'm not a Mrs. Broom," she answered with a little wink.
"I need a season pass for that ass," Katy commented on a video Orlando posted in May. "Oops I meant to send that to you privately."
They have kept a lot private though, an anonymous source told Entertainment Tonight: "Keeping their relationship a secret while they worked on their love for one another has completely turned things around for them."
That source thinks the couple is now past the point of wanting to hide.
"They don't mind if anyone sees them together anymore. They are far past that now, and in fact, they seem to be celebrating their love for one another. Their closest friends and family are all thrilled and have been waiting a long time for this day."
Condolences to John Mayer.
