Meredith Marks Reacts to the Birthday Party that “Seemed to Be a Little More About” Jen Shah
Plus, find out which The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City cast member was also celebrating her birthday that night.
In the November 11 series premiere of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, cast member Jen Shah threw a lavish bash for birthday girl Meredith Marks. Though the extravagant event was intended to be thrown in the jewelry designer’s honor, it included a few elements that left some of the ‘Wives wondering who the party was actually for, such as an elaborate flower wall that said “Shah Chalet” and a performance from Tongan dancers who Jen admitted “really have nothing to do with Meredith. They have everything to do with me.”
So how does Meredith actually feel about the party now that it’s all said and done? She opened up about the extravaganza on the Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen episode following the series premiere.
“Meredith, were you at all offended that your birthday party seemed to be a little more about Jen than about your birthday?” Andy Cohen asked.
“You don’t kick a gift horse in the mouth,” replied Meredith. “Jen can throw a party however she wants to throw it. That’s up to her. It’s her party at the end of the day.”
“You don’t kick a what? What did you say? You’re calling me a horse,” Jen cut in, grabbing her signature microphone and making a “neigh” noise like a horse.
Meredith went on to clarify that she was not trying to offend Jen, explaining, “No, I was not calling you a horse. It’s an expression. You well know what that means.”

Meredith addressed the confusion yet again in an Instagram post the following day, sharing a photo of herself in the outfit she wore on WWHL and a screenshot that read, “What does it mean to kick a gift horse in the mouth? Don’t be ungrateful when you receive a gift. Do not be critical of a gift you receive. Do not refuse something good that is offered. Do not be unappreciative of or question a gift you have received.”
To make the event even more interesting, a Bravo Insider exclusive unseen moment from the episode reveals that Meredith actually wasn’t the only birthday girl in the group. One of the other cast members was celebrating her birthday that night, too, but kept quiet about it, noting, “I hate my birthday. I don’t like when people make a big deal out of me because I don’t need it.” The ‘Wife later went on to tell a number of people at the party that it was also her birthday. Check out the video, below, to see who it was.
