These Girl-Power Costumes Will Be the Most Popular Looks for Halloween 2018
All the kick-ass women leading our favorite shows and films gives us plenty of characters to choose from!
A hypothetical for you: If you could have any superpower just for one night what would you choose?
It’s a tough one, right? Sure, there are the obvious choices like invisibility (à la Wonder Woman in her invisible jet) or flight (like Superman). Or maybe more under-the-radar options like under-water breathing (yep, that would be Aquaman).
This Halloween, though, I think I’ll choose ‘girl power’ as my superpower. And thanks to all the kick-ass women leading our favorite shows and films I have plenty of characters to choose from, like the Dora Miljea from this year’s highest-grossing film so far (Black Panther, obvs.), or Offred in the second season of The Handmaid’s Tale, or one of the Spandex-clad G.L.O.W. ladies, or any of the other film- and TV-inspired looks you'll be seeing everywhere this All Hallows Eve.
The Dora Miljae from Black Panther
Whether you call yourself Okoye, Ayo, Xoliswa—or any of the Dora Milijae, you've got your Halloween look covered.
Offred from The Handmaid’s Tale
Season two of The Handmaid's Tale is excuse enough to robe up in red and join the resistence.
Eleven from Stranger Things
Last Halloween, Stranger Things fans channeled Eleven with a pink smocked dress, sweat socks and a box of Eggos. The look still works, but why not follow this season’s plotline and give yourself a punked-up makeover just like she does.
Elastigirl from The Incredibles 2
“Who are you dressed up as?” is a question you will hear from exactly no one when you channel Helen Parr, a.k.a. Elastigirl, a.k.a. star of the highest grossing animated film of 2018—and of all time.
Gamora from Avengers: Infinity War
Who doesn’t want to slather her face in green makeup and get kitted out in leather like Gamora in this year’s second most popular movie?
Liberty Belle from G.L.O.W.
Season two saw the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling in some of their best costumes yet—but nothing beats watching Liberty Belle battle Zoya the Destroyer in full-on stars and stripes. Also: Perfect excuse to get out the hot rollers and go big and bold with your hair.
Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones
GOT might be on pause until next year, but dressing up like Mother of Dragons can help you fill the void.
Dolores from Westworld
This season, Dolores swaps her mild manners for something a little tougher, like, oh, a gun and holster and all the other trappings of a real cowgirl.
Everyone from Orange Is the New Black
Bright orange scrubs are all you need to channel Piper, “Crazy Eyes,” Alex, “Pennsatucky”—basically any of the OITNB inmates.
Dinosaur from Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
This movie might be the fourth highest-grossing film of 2018, but honestly I had zero interest in it—until I realized it was the perfect excuse to dress up in a giant inflatable T-Rex suit that would let me accidentally knock over cocktails with my tail all Halloween night—and no one could say anything BECAUSE I AM A 7-FOOT TALL DINOSAUR.
