7 Retro Beauty Products That Got a Chic Update

The 80s may have come and gone, but there are some beauty products that we aren't ready to say goodbye to.

By Megan Segura

While the 80s may have come and gone, some of the beauty products we were introduced to still live on in our hearts. And while some of our beloved brands have since been discontinued (or we've just grown apart), they have been reincarnated into something a bit more adult, yet still pretty amazing. Beauty expert Ami Desai reveals some of her favorite substitutes.

If You Loved Lip Smackers...

"I'm sure every 80s baby remembers Dr. Pepper Lip Smackers," says Desai. "Maybelline doesn't have a soda flavored balm, yet, but their Baby Lips Lip Balm comes in fun bright packaging and leaves your pout tinted with color and comes in fun scents and flavors."

If You Loved SunIn...

Desai recommends John Frieda Beach Blonde Sun Streaks Lightening Spray for almost instantly lighter hair. "This will get you back into the 80s with natural highlights and save you a trip to the salon!"

If You Loved Mood Lipstick...

A lipstick that adapts to your mood? Well, not quite, but Desai says this Lipstick Queen Frog Prince green lipstick reacts to your body heat and turns into an intense rose shade. Plus, it has the added benefit of shea butter and vitamin E to keep lips soft and hydrated.

If You Loved Blue Eye Shadow...

Oh, who are you kidding? Who didn't love blue eye shadow in the 80s! Thankfully Maybelline has put an adult spin on an old favorite with Eye Studio Color Tattoo in Tenacious Teal. The aqua color will remind you of your Under the Sea-themed high school prom, but a small slanted brush will keep you from over-applying. Desai also recommends using it as a gel liner for a small burst of color around the eyes.

If You Loved Your Crimper...

Desai suggests updating the style with Hot Tools Deep Waver. "This look is becoming so popular today," says Desai. "Not the full on heavy crimp but larger sections of hair with just a little crimp is being seen everywhere to achieve that chic bed-head look."

If You Loved Your Caboodles...

The brand may be the same, but this tote is nothing like those hard plastic containers you used to carry around. Instead, it's soft and has a spacious open interior, removable divider, and seven interior elastic storage pockets.

If You Loved Your Extra Hold Hairspray...

Good news! Nothing has changed here. "The L’Oréal Elnett Satin Extra Strong Hold Hair Spray has been brought back to life with its huge following by popular world-renowned hairstylists," says Desai."
