Carson Kressley Shares When He First Came Out to His Parents
The Get a Room with Carson & Thom designer might be more of a late bloomer than you think.
After appearing together on Bravo's Queer Eye for the Straight Guy from 2003-2007, Carson Kressley and Thom Filicia have reunited for the new design series Get a Room with Carson & Thom. Despite what Carson has called the "triple entendre" of the show's name, Thom describes their actual relationship as decidedly non-romantic, calling them "masculine sisters" and "wingmen" for each other.
And, then Carson revealed something unexpected in the second episode (which aired on October 26). Each episode features two home makeovers, and one of the clients hit especially close to home for the fashion guru.
"Our client is Scott, he is a late bloomer. He came out when he was 31 years old, and he’s 41 now," Thom told Carson as they began the process of transforming a studio.
"So I’m going to give him a ‘gay-over?'" Carson quipped.
"I actually was also a late comer outer," Carson then admitted. "We were doing Queer Eye and I had to call my mom and dad and be like, 'Oh yeah, the show is coming out on Tuesday.' 'Cause I didn’t tell them what the name was."
"You were nervous about it?" Thom asked. "I remember you being nervous about it."
"And it was fine, but it was very nerve-wracking," Carson said. "I came out when I was 33, like officially, even though I’m pretty sure everyone was like, 'We get it.'"
We knew that this was a renovation show of sorts, but we didn't know they'd be dropping bombs, too.
Watch the twosome create stylish — and affordable — redesigns on Get a Room with Carson & Thom, airing Fridays at 9/8c.
