The 3 Best Design Trends to Follow, According to Thom Filicia & Carson Kressley
FYI: Fans of a certain '70s TV show are going to be very happy with the Get A Room With Carson & Thom stars' picks.
Keeping up with trends in home decor can be a little like trying to keep up with what’s new in fashion — there are so many blogs, so many Insta posts, so many Pins, and so many magazine spreads to sift through. It’s enough to make you want to retreat to the safety of your sparsely furnished bedroom and never come out. But don’t! Because Thom and Carson are here to help.
If you haven’t heard by now, original Queer Eye for the Straight Guy stars Thom Filicia and Carson Kressley are back with a new home makeover show: Get a Room with Carson and Thom (tune in Fridays at 9/8c!). And they’re helping people just like us revamp our living spaces. Since they’ve got their well-manicured fingers on the design pulse, we asked them just which trends we need to look out for. Here are their top three.
1. Bring Personality to Your Space
First, the bad news: If the look you ascribe to is faux and gilded and littered with Liberace leftovers, it might be time for an update. “Interior design styles that are definitely out for 2018 are aspirational, one-note interiors that are lifeless,” says Thom. “It’s all about bringing personality, style, curation, and creating a mixture of high, medium and low.”
2. Tell Your Story with Vintage and Bohemian Pieces
“Homes tell your story,” adds Carson. “So I think not decorating with everything that is brand new and out of the box.” He advises incorporating bohemian and vintage pieces to get a collected, layered feeling going.
3. An Eclectic, Funky 70's Vibe Is Quite All Right
And the really good news? “Everything 70s is back!” says Carson. “If it looks like the living room on Three’s Company, it’s on trend.” We always knew Mrs. Roper was way ahead of her time.
