The Mummy's Makeup is Totally on Trend For Summer 2017
She's undead and her makeup's still on point.
We assumed Cleopatra and King Tut would be source material for the makeup behind Tom Cruise's new action flick The Mummy (out tomorrow!) — but it turns out, celeb beauty looks were just as influential. The Hollywood Reporter interviewed the movie's lead makeup artist Lizzie Yianni-Georgiou, who picked up on the color of the summer for princess-turned-mummy Ahmanet's eye makeup.
"In the beginning, you'll see her as the beautiful pharaoh in blue eyeliner. ... I kind of wanted to give her a look that related to young people today, but still kept true to the ancient Egyptian colors and styling," Lizzie told the Hollywood Reporter.
That meant a pretty sweep of MAC Chromagraphic Pencil in Hi-Def Cyan and Pro Longwear Fluidline in Siahi under actress Sofia Boutella's eyes. Lizzie followed that up with black dramatic eyeliner in MAC Pro Longwear Fluidline in Blacktrack and Kohl Power Eye Pencil in Feline — not to mention very bold straight brows, which is so 2017.
"I like things that are slightly different, slightly edgy. That’s what we’ve done with Ahmanet. So many period looks have already done. I thought we need to bring her more into our period," Lizzie said in a MAC video about the movie.
Need proof that blue eyeliner is everywhere these days? Stars like Emily Ratajkowski, Joey King, and Michelle Williams and more show us how a fun hint of blue can really make eyes pop.
Suddenly, we're feeling very blue.
