Rachel Dratch: Why I Love the Housewives
The SNL alum is a fierce RHONY loyalist.
With The Real Housewives Awards in full swing, we've asked celebrities and pop culture icons to share why they love our hit franchise. Today, Rachel Dratch, Saturday Night Live alum and the author of Girl Walks Into a Bar..., shares why she's a RHONY fan through and through.
My favorite Housewives show is probably New York City, just because as a New Yorker now I can best relate to that brand of craziness. But in terms of a polar opposite of me brand of crazy I like the Real Housewives of Orange County. I could picture hanging with the NY ladies way more than I could with OC. Plus, I would need a lot of surgery and one of those shirts with a large golden medallion on the sternum, or over-boob area.
Favorite moment? That's tough. Ramona Singer walking the fashion show? The ridiculous saga of Jill Zarin and Bethenny Frankel's friendship falling apart for I still don't know what reason? It's hard to pick which fight because they all kind of run together.
My favorite Housewife might be a bit old school of an answer but I'm gonna go with Jill Zarin. She had all the drummed-up drama and ego that makes it fun to watch but she also seemed like in her own way she would try to do the right thing, which made her not a complete null set to watch. I also enjoy the Countess LuAnn de Lesseps for all of her trappings of royalty and manners and poise—kind of the same as Jill—she can seem so pretentious with her "Darling!" and all that, but then, you gotta admit, she looks good and does have a certain air that she knows what's what.
See, I also like Ramona because she can be so out of line but clueless about it, and then she'll always try to justify it by just saying, "Hey! I say what I think! That's me!"
