Does Thomas Ravenel Still Want to Run for Office?
The new father opens up about his future political ambitions.
Thomas Ravenel surprised the world yesterday when he revealed that he and his Southern Charm girlfriend Kathryn C. Dennis have become the proud parents of a newborn baby girl. Kensington Calhoun was born healthy and happy in West Palm Beach, Fla. on March 24.
In recent weeks, Thomas, who served as South Carolina's State Treasurer until he was busted for cocaine distribution charges in 2007, has opened up about wanting to get back into politics once again. He shared the news with Andy on Watch What Happens Live in early April. "I would love to run for the United States Senate," he said at the time. "I'm going to throw my hat into the ring as an independent candidate."
But now that Thomas is a father, has he changed his mind about entering an election? Quite the contrary. "I absolutely want to run again," he tells the Dish. "I want it all. Sometimes you can't have it all, but I wan't it all."

In fact, Thomas believes his status as a dad only makes him more likable as a candidate. "A friend of mine told me, 'I can't vote for you because you don't have kids. You won't know about responsibility until you have kids,'" Thomas recalls. "And now I know exactly what he was talking about."
While much of Thomas' days may be taken up with diaper duty, he says he has time to "bone up on the issues. I can juggle a lot. I'm the kind of guy who can do a lot of things at once. Otherwise, I tend to get bored and that's not good for me. I need to be busy."
