Summing It All Up
Max talks baby clothes shopping, stealing a massage spot, back rubs, and bros.
OK, OK I know what you’re thinking… I just jumped in front of everyone and got on the massage table. It certainly looks like I did, however, I didn't. The woman who was organizing the massages asked if I wanted to get one and after asking if there was a waiting list, she told me there was and put me at the end. So, when my name was called I thought the people ahead of me had already gone. I would never purposely cut in front of Bethenny's guests.
Shopping for Bryn’s clothing was fun. In terms of the practicality of me being there, I don’t know if I served much purpose as "baby clothing consultant." But I guess Bethenny wanted me there to help keep the situation light and fun because it was her first time shopping for Bryn and didn’t want it to be stressful.
I was so pumped to go to Montauk! I’d never been out to the Hamptons area before and was excited to see what all the praise was about. Plus, everyone in the apartment looked ready to get out of the city for a bit.
I know Bethenny was goofing on me because I was so amped up about the football game, but hey, it was the manliest thing I’ve done in my five months with Bethenny. All day long I shop for underwear, pack panties, and build cribs so I’m definitely jacked up to play some football! Julie is a baller, that’s all I’m going to say. She bleeds that Pittsburgh Steeler black and gold so I knew she wasn’t messing around when the whistle blew and the game started.
Guys can rub lotion on other guys’ backs and be totally straight! Jason was just being a bro. I certainly could have asked Bethenny but I’d rather not freak her out.
My experience working for Bethenny has been a learning process for me. I was in vulnerable and awkward positions most of the time, however, I feel good about my determination in finding a way to get the job done. I know I didn’t always make the right decision, but they were all correctable mistakes and come with the territory of being the new guy. Many of the things I experienced while working for Bethenny, such as the wedding and the birth of Bryn, were things I have never been around before. But like Coach Robinson always told us before every game, "You need to get comfortable being uncomfortable." It's probably the most important sentence anyone's ever preached to me and it fit perfectly with my role under Bethenny.
I got to meet dozens of wonderful people in Bethenny and Jason’s life, too. Wherever I go afterwards I will be a better employee and more importantly, a better person. I’ve grown to love Bethenny, Jason, Julie, and Bryn and consider them my second family. Back in that chilly February night when I first met Bethenny who knew it would have lead to all this? I’m so lucky I got the opportunity and grateful for all the positives that came out of it.
