That's My Final Offer
Episode 11: Bravotv.com's Editor ponders music, haggling, and moving.
Hello beach bums! It's another lovely week in Mexico and we've got a giant selection of jams and lots of bargain priced jewelry available, so let's enjoy the rest of this vacation while the sun shines shall we?
Sa-Wrong or Sa-Right
We open this trip with a breakfast interrupted by work, but before you can say approve packaging, Bethenny is distracted by "hermano" and his newest wares. This time Valentin is selling jewelry, and at fairly ridic prices. I love that Jason becomes the closer in this situation. Mr. Hoppy is a cool operator, and refuses to get shook down by "hermano." Good job Jason. You know what they say: there are always more necklaces in the sea.
Later, after their near-death boat experience (I'll get to that in a second), she attempts to get hermano down to an end-of-days discount -- and it worked! I knew B wasn't leaving Mexico without that necklace.
In Bethenny and Jason’s continuing quest for enlightenment, they decide to try their hand at music therapy. Stocked with a plethora of booze and plenty of questions for the music teacher, Bethenny and Jason are ready to rock out with their issues out. I do have questions about Bethenny's idea of putting maracas in instead of breast implants. It seems like a great idea, so I guess I really just have the one question -- can technology make it happen?
Rah for RaRa
Adding a bit of religious culture to their vacation, the gang visits a chapel at the resort. After debating Bryn's third baptism, RaRa peels off in an emotional tizzy. Ra's missing her family, and then Bethenny assures her that there's a whole other family that's there for her.
Bryn is super lucky to be adored by so many wonderful people, and Bethenny and Veronica are lovely to be in each other's lives.
Cooked
How delightful was it to see Bethenny squirming during the cooking demonstration? Skinnygirl does not like to wait. However, what was much more delightful was the introduction to newest friend of Bethenny, Liz. Liz firmly believed that Bethenny was Marianne, was unsure where she should be, but was prepared for food. Marianne was drinking a glass of wine roughly the size of my head and ready to enjoy her day at lunch, no matter who she was with. Yay Liz! You eat all the mole sauce, call whoever whatever you choose, and have all the drinks you want. It is vacation right?
Thirty Days
Over margaritas, which is the best way to break any news, Jason drops a little bomb on the group – they have to be out of their current apartment in 30 days. Yipes. Bethenny knows that the timeline is "when donkeys fly" for the new place, so it seems there will need to be some interim living.
Julie's reaction to this shocking news: laughter, because it ain’t her problem!
Less than enthused by the news -– Maggie. It's interesting to see that Maggie looks particularly terrified here (and on the ensuing boat ride). Bethenny Frankel can smell that kind of fear and she doesn't like it. If Maggie can't get her "sherpa" on, it seems like she might not be ready to run with the Skinnygirls.
I will give her some credit and say that boat ride didn't seem like the calm relaxing afternoon anyone had planned. Of course, this begs the question: why do they keep getting on boats?
We’ll have to see if Maggie boards another boat or returns to Skinnygirl HQ again.
It's a Woman's World
During the boat ride, Jason and Julie had a little heart-to-heart. Jason's proud of her for making the big choice to leave the team, and wondering if
he's ready to make that big of a decision himself.
The problem seems to be that Jason wants his own success. Over an intimate dinner, Bethenny and Jason discuss the idea of him joining the team. Jason's frustrated that his career isn't what the wants it to be. He feels frustrated that he's part of the brand, but not fully invested. As a man, he has a hard time with Bethenny being so successful.
Bethenny feels frustrated because she hasn't changed from who she said she was, but sometimes feelings change even if people don't. As she said, Jason chose her, and so maybe he wants something to spurn him to success. Either way, they're committed to working it out, no matter where Jason is working.
Next week, the gang returns to NYC and tries to sort out the apartment mess -- but not before Bethenny takes Nick to yoga. . . Get excited about that!
