Kyle Richards Shares What Hanukkah Family Dinner Looks Like at Her House
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills mom makes exceptions for carbs when latkes are involved.
Typically, Kyle Richards maintains her lean physique with this exact daily diet marked by low carbs and restraint — but when there's a valid religious reason to fry everything, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills mom is down to make some exceptions in the name of tradition.
On Hanukkah, which started at sundown on December 2, the tradition is to serve and eat a range of food fried in oil, as a nod to the miracle of the tiny bit of oil that is said to have kept a menorah lit for eight days more than 2,000 years ago — and Kyle honored that tradition when she served Hanukkah dinner at her home.
On Instagram Stories, Kyle shared "Happy Hanukkah" messages to her followers — and then offered them a glimpse into her own gracious home for the holidays. First off, there was... a Christmas tree, surrounded by a toy train. "I know, I know it's Hanukkah — but we celebrate both," she noted, with a shrug emoji.
Then it was onto her family's dinner spread, served in overflowing dishes atop her marble island, which appeared to include sides of sweet potatoes, salad, and brussels sprouts — and yes, of course, a copious platter offering latkes, the fried potato pancakes that are the most traditional and recognizable food of the season.
When the family moved to a rousing game of dreidel, they played for traditional stakes of foil-wrapped chocolate gelt — and things got a tad intense. "I feel like you guys think we're in Vegas or something," Kyle narrated as the top spun. "So much at stake!"
The assembled fam also reached for sufganiyot (traditional jelly-filled fried donuts) during their dreidel game... played on their table topped with a Christmas tree... which had been given the Hanukkah treatment with a blue and white color palette.
Here's a peek at the holiday magic:
