Savannah Guthrie Shares an Update on Her Keto Diet Progress: "I Feel Less Energy" — But I'm "Sharper" Mentally
TODAY anchor Savannah Guthrie shared with Dr. Oz her mixed bag of results on the controversial Keto diet.
Celebrities love Keto, even as it remains a controversial diet among many in the medical community (and in the Bravo celeb community). Some high-profile Keto fans, like former adult star Jenna Jameson, have seen astounding weight loss results, while others have found it to be somewhat of a mixed bag of results. It's definitely been the latter for TODAY anchor Savannah Guthrie, who had recently told Andy Cohen about her Keto experience — and has now provided a more extensive update on Dr. Oz.
Guthrie told Dr. Oz she's been "kind of doing it" on and off. “It’s a lot of meat and cheese. It’s a meat salad. It’s like salad and some grilled chicken, but you can get more fat, which is kind of fun,” she said. "So in some ways you have to deprive yourself — no carbs whatsoever and that’s really restrictive — but it's opened up some things that I would never let myself eat a lot of, like cheese and bacon, so I like that.”
She said that Keto has made her feel "sharper" mentally, but she also experienced something that is the opposite of a desired result.
“I feel less energy in the sense that I don’t want to work out anymore,” she revealed. “I think I need those carbs to feel like I want to go on a run or do aerobics or do whatever I might do.”
Guthrie had been trying out Keto for seven weeks when she said on the Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen after-show that nothing was happening.
"It's not even doing anything," she admitted. "I haven't lost anything! I haven't lost a thing, but you know what? I've eaten a lot of bacon and I like it."
Andy, for his part, expressed his doubts about Keto: "Isn't it funny when sometimes super-smart newspeople do really dumb things?"
