Andy Cohen Calls Out His Guest Savannah Guthrie for Her "Dumb" Choice to Do the Keto Diet
The TODAY anchor told the host about her Keto diet stint on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.
The Keto diet — free of sugar and grains, low carb, moderate in protein, and thick with good fats, meant to kickstart the body into burning fat instead of carbs for energy — has appealed to many celebrities, including TODAY hosts past and present. The show's current anchor Savannah Guthrie is one such convert, and told the audience at the Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen after-show that she's been on it herself for seven weeks.
"It's not even doing anything," she admitted. "I haven't lost anything! I haven't lost a thing, but you know what? I've eaten a lot of bacon and I like it."
The bacon may be keeping her going, but her friend and WWHL's guest bartender for the night was health writer Joy Bauer, a frequent TODAY guest who was concerned that her friend was still on Keto after seven weeks.
"It's super high in fat and it's ridiculously low in protein and carbs," Joy explained, "so it's very difficult to stick with and really, it makes me so sad to think a diet would omit so many fruits and vegetables. Savannah! Come talk to me!"
Andy asked, "Joy, isn't it funny when sometimes super-smart newspeople do really dumb things?"
