Kaia Gerber Was Every Teen When She Found Out Mom Cindy Crawford Was Coming to Work With Her
"Do I have to walk with you?"
She may look superhuman, but Kaia Gerber is a regular teenager at heart. (OK, a teenager who grew up in a Malibu mansion, but still...)
The rising star stole runways and headlines alike during fashion month, and modeled in megawatt events including Versace's Spring 2018 show at Milan Fashion Week. All was coming up roses — until the 16-year-old realized that her mom Cindy Crawford was going to crash the party.
"The models themselves don’t really get booked until the day before or two days before," Crawford recently told the The Associated Press. "And finally Kaia got booked for [Versace], and I said, ‘You know I’m doing that show, right?’ She’s like, ‘Wait, do we have to walk down together?’ I said, ‘No. I don’t even want to walk down with you. I’m going to walk down with the ladies that are my age. You can go with the girls that are your age.’”
Of course, the ladies "of Cindy's age" included the likes of Naomi Campbell, Helena Christensen, and Claudia Schiffer. The reunion of iconic supermodels made for quite the fashion moment, to put it mildly.
At the rate Kaia is going, though, she's set to become an icon in her own right. The stunner has not only walked for Versace. She's also a muse for Marc Jacobs, and has modeled for Rihanna's Fenty Puma collection.
But, before she cinches that Super status, Gerber still has to master the rules of the road. As any mother would, Crawford worries slightly about her daughter being in the public eye. But at the moment, she has more immediate concerns: "My daughter just got her driver’s license. I’m a lot more concerned about her driving by herself than her entering the world of modeling,” the wise mom told the AP.
