How long have you worked at SUR? I have been a SUR girl for 6 years -- a veteran. When I started in 2007 we had probably 12 employees and no liquor license. Needless to say, a lot has changed over the years but I vowed as long as I had to do the server/bartender gig in LA it would be my first, last, and only. What made you apply for the job at SUR? I didn't exactly "apply" for my job at SUR. When I first moved to LA, my then agent told me I would need a job to bring in income while casting/auditioning and introduced me to his good friend Guillermo. The rest is history. What was your previous job, and why did you leave it to work at SUR? I had only lived in LA two weeks when I was hired at SUR. Prior to that I had been hopping around between Michigan, Maryland, and Florida for the previous two years. What skills make you a great waiter/bartender? SUR wasn't my first rodeo. I have been in the service industry since I was 18, bartending/serving at fine dining restaurants, nightclubs, and sports bars. I'm fast, a quick learner, efficient and personable. Dining and lounging is all about the experience and it is my job to make it a memorable one.Do you have any kind of professional licenses, certifications or registrations in the food and restaurant business? I am both TIPS (Training for Intervention Procedures) and LEAD (Licensee on Alcohol and Drugs) certified. What is the best part about working at SUR? The best part of SUR has always been and will always be the family atmosphere that Lisa and Guillermo have created for the staff and guests. As a staff member, it does make it almost impossible to leave your personal life outside of work but it's comforting to know you always have a friend or a boss that will care about what's going on in your life -- good or bad. Please list your additional skills for SUR. Do you have supervision skills? Do you speak other languages? What do you bring to the table at SUR? When SUR first obtained their liquor license, I worked with our then general manager to create our cocktail menu and also helped Tom/Ken to set up Villa Blanca's bar when they opened. I am not a manager but I know that Guillermo trusts in me to train new servers and aid the managers on nights when it is necessary. I speak American Sign Language as well as English and Ebonics (Detroit roots, yo). What if it's 12 am on a Tuesday and a Housewife patron is in the restaurant, perhaps overly intoxicated, asking for another shot. What do you do? As long as she has an Uber or a DD, I would tell her to do a shot with me! Just kidding. . .Maybe! It would depend on the circumstances of her "intoxication" -- obviously making sure she is not driving is the most important. Fun, fake, and fruity shots are the best way to go served with a tall water bomb. If her intoxication was too severe, I would make manager and bar manager aware of the situation. As long as she is safe and having fun, there is no need to embarrass her.

How long have you worked at SUR? I have worked at SUR since April of 2012 but I worked at Villa Blanca for 3 years prior. So basically, I have worked for Lisa and Ken for over 4 years. What made you apply for the job at SUR? What originally brought me into Villa Blanca prior to it opening, was the fact that I was a big fan of SUR. Both places have a great ambiance. I was really excited when Lisa brought me over to SUR, because of it's sexy, classy, yet still comfortable atmosphere -- plus the fact that many of my good friends and Kristen working there as well. What was your previous job, and why did you leave it to work at SUR? I still work at Villa Blanca, but now I am mainly at SUR. I prefer SUR because of the simple fact I live closer to there. I also prefer the more upbeat environment of SUR, plus the fact that it has more of a bar crowd. What skills make you a great waiter/bartender? The fact that I'm fast and efficient, able to read my customers all while still creating and maintaining a genuine connection with people. Most people either make great cocktails and are slow, or make mediocre cocktails but are really fast. I can safely say that I make the best cocktails at SUR and am one of the fastest. I make it a mission to try and make all of my drinks to they're fullest potential. What separates me from the rest is the fact that I'm consistent and enthusiastic, with a hint of flair. On a technical side I have worked and trained with numerous mixologist contracted by major brand ambassadors from all over the world. I was the gate keeper at Villa Blanca for years (before switching my majority shifts to SUR) for any new spirits coming into Villa Blanca. What surprised me is how eight out of ten times I was more knowledgeable about the particular spirit that the short skirted, big breasted sales rep was trying to get us to carry it. Gee, I wonder how they got their job? Haha!Do you have any kind of professional licenses, certifications or registrations in the food and restaurant business? I've gone through LEAD training, STAR training, and have my Food Handler's Card. Why are you a perfect fit for SUR? Because of being "sexy" and "unique" by nature! LOL! But also the fact that I started at Villa Blanca, so I knew what to expect. I'm also naturally a night owl, so in the later hours, I somehow seem to shine where some others fall short. What is the best part about working at SUR? Friends, atmosphere, location, the patrons, and the money of course! Plus now that we are in Season 2, fans of the show come in and bring in such a great energy. What can I say, I love my job! Please list your additional skills for SUR. Do you have supervision skills? Do you speak other languages? What do you bring to the table at SUR? I always try to lead by example at SUR, I feel it's much more effective than giving orders. I, of course, have manager experience, and have trained most of the bartenders at Villa Blanca, and created most of the drinks on the cocktail menu there. I speak English and Bad English, everything else I bring to the table is self-explanatory or just see above. What if it's 12 am on a Tuesday and a Housewife is in the restaurant, perhaps overly intoxicated, asking for another shot. What do you do? First thing I'm going to do is make sure that they aren't driving. Second I'm going to bring them a "water bomb" which is a tall glass of water with a straw and make them take it all down. Then if they still persist I will make them a fun. fruity shot in a champagne glass that has no alcohol. Before I bring it to them I will make it clear that it will be they're last alcoholic beverage all while of course maintaining a fun playful attitude. I've dealt with this before and can usually spot these situations coming a mile away. Absolute worse case scenario, I can tell them that my manager won't let me serve them anymore. Easy Peasy.
