Tonya Harding Admits That She Knew "Something" About Nancy Kerrigan's 1994 Attack Before It Happened (UPDATED)
A new special delves into Harding's side of one of pop culture's most infamous stories.
UPDATE (Jan. 12, 2018, 12:30 p.m.): Tonya Harding's representative Michael Rosenberg quit this week, claiming she demanded that reporters stop asking about her past or face a fine, according to PEOPLE.
In a Facebook post, which PEOPLE was unable to independently verify and which does not appear on his Facebook page (meaning that it may have been deleted or hidden), Rosenberg wrote, “Unfortunately, we reached an impasse today regarding how to treat the press in the future. Her adamant and final position is that reporters must sign an affidavit stating that they won’t ask her anything ‘about the past’ or they will be fined $25,000.”

The buzzy new Tonya Harding biopic I, Tonya has again stirred up interest in an infamous pop culture story from 1994. Now, nearly 25 years after her ex-husband Jeff Gillooly and his friend Shawn Eckhardt orchestrated an attack on Olympic pro Nancy Kerrigan, Harding is delving deeper into her side of the story.
In ABC's January 11 special, Truth and Lies: The Tonya Harding Story, the former championship figure skater admitted that she knew "something" about the attack on her competitor, before the event took place. Though Harding didn't confess to explicitly knowing what Gillooly and Eckhardt had planned, "I knew that something was up," she said.
Harding went on to admit that she had heard the two friends scheming. "I did ... overhear them talking about stuff. ‘Well, maybe we should take somebody out so we can make sure [Harding] gets on the team.’ And I remember telling them, I go, ‘What the hell are you talking about? I can skate,’” Harding shared with interviewer Amy Robach.
For her part, Kerrigan had previously remained silent on her thoughts regarding I, Tonya. But the Olympic pro finally (but barely!) broke her silence ealier this week.
When speaking to The Boston Globe, Kerrigan shared: "I really have nothing to say about [the movie.] I haven’t seen anything. I haven’t watched anything. I’ve been busy. I was at the national [figure skating] championships this week so I didn’t watch the Golden Globes. I haven’t seen the movie. I’m just busy living my life.’’
However, Kerrigan did seem to appreciate a sketch at the Critics' Choice Awards, in which Olivia Munn portrayed her in a would-be film entitled I, Nancy. She tweeted a response to the funny skit on January 11:
