Real Housewives on Vacation: The Delicate Science Behind Group Trip Room Assignments
Cast members from RHOSLC, RHONY, and RHOP open up about the inevitable drama that kicks off every trip.
Whether the locale calls for swimsuits and sarongs or a weekend of winter sports and warming up in a luxe lodge, there’s one order of business The Real Housewives must get out of the way before unpacking their bags on every group trip. That task is, of course, assigning rooms to each of the cast members, which is almost always a precursor to drama.
In the 100 plus seasons of The Real Housewives, there have been countless squabbles over vacation accommodations, but Season 9 of The Real Housewives of New York City in 2017 is when it really started to feel as though fighting over rooms had become an official Housewives pastime.
RHONY alums Sonja Morgan and Ramona Singer often shared a room during girls’ trips, insisting “we should get the best room, because we’re two.” This room-choosing strategy often ruffled the feathers of their castmates and caused a rocky start to vacation. When the women went to Mexico in Season 9, Episode 16, they pulled numbers from a bowl to bring some order to the room selection process, but the technique backfired, creating even more chaos. Although the ladies eventually settled into their rooms, they never really reached an agreement on which one could be considered “the best,” or how to fairly decide who gets to stay there.
