Tamra Judge Shares an Update on Ex-Husband Simon Barney Amid His Cancer Battle
The former RHOC husband has been focusing on his family as he is "fighting the fight," according to Tamra.
Simon Barney is continuing the fight.
Ex-wife Tamra Judge recently shared an update on how Simon is doing amid his battle with stage 3 throat cancer. "He's doing OK. He's doing OK," Tamra said during the February 20 Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen After Show (clip above). "I mean, he's still fighting the fight. He's doing OK."
Simon first confirmed his diagnosis in an interview with PEOPLE in February 2020, sharing that he had "taken this fight on with optimism." "I’m going to fight it with a smile and a laugh, and I’m going to beat it," he said. "It’s whatever my destiny is.”
At that time, Simon was undergoing chemotherapy and radiation. In a rare update on his cancer battle posted to his Instagram in July 2020, Simon shared photos of himself from "Before, During and after treatment."
Though Simon and Tamra's relationship had been strained since their divorce in 2011, his cancer diagnosis had helped to mend fences among the family, including their three children: daughters Sidney, 23, and Sophia, 16, and son Spencer, 21. “It’s kind of like a new beginning for me and my family. It’s really brought everyone closer together,” Simon previously told PEOPLE. “When I told Tamra, she said she cried for like, two or three days. Things changed with our relationship from there, in a good way. We’re getting along in ways we haven’t in years. And she’s become close with my fiancée. And that shift carried across the board with my kids, too.”
Tamra also told PEOPLE back in February 2020 that when Simon told her about his cancer diagnosis, "any ill feelings between the two of us just vanished." "All we have to do is rally together to make it through this," she added.
In recent months, Simon has been all about his family. He shared a heartwarming Instagram post about how much being a dad has meant to him in honor of Father's Day 2021. "Being a father has been the most enjoyable part of my life. I have loved every moment good or bad," he wrote alongside a collection of throwback photos of Sidney, Spencer, Sophia, and Tamra's son from her previous marriage, Ryan Vieth. "[Father's] Day is when I celebrate the wonderful children I have and whom they have become. Love you all, Dad."
Simon later showed Sophia some love as his "beautiful daughter" celebrated her 16th birthday in September 2021. His Instagram post included a photo of his youngest giving a thumbs up to the camera as she enjoyed her Hello Kitty birthday cake, as well as a vintage video of Sophia adorably singing "happy birthday to me" when she was a little kid.
Simon documented his low-key yet still very special Christmas in 2021 featuring a luminous, decked-out tree, a relaxing morning spent in front of a yule log burning on the TV, and his Christmas dinner with his daughter.
On the last day of 2021, Simon headed into the new year with positivity, sharing an inspirational message as he prepared to enter 2022.
