There's Officially a Shade of Purple in Prince's Honor
Finally!
Prince went by the nickname The Purple One during his iconic career and now the late music legend is being honored in one of the most apt ways we can think of. On Monday, it was announced by the Prince Estate and the Pantone Color Institute that a shade of purple has been created in his memory. According to Variety, the color has been dubbed "Love Symbol #2" and was inspired by the custom-made Yamaha piano he was slated to take on tour before he died of an accidental drug overdose in April 2016.
A shade of purple fit for the late music star himself.
That piano was, of course, purple and, duh!, Prince had long been associated with the color. “The color purple was synonymous with who Prince was and will always be. This is an incredible way for his legacy to live on forever,” Troy Carter, Entertainment Advisor to Prince’s Estate, said in a statement.
Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute, added: “We are honored to have worked on the development of Love Symbol #2, a distinctive new purple shade created in memory of Prince, ‘the purple one.’ A musical icon known for his artistic brilliance, Love Symbol #2 is emblematic of Prince’s distinctive style. Long associated with the purple family, Love Symbol #2 enables Prince’s unique purple shade to be consistently replicated and maintain the same iconic status as the man himself.”
Iconic, indeed:
