Monica Garcia Shares an Update on Her Relationship with Her Mom, Linda
RHOSLC's Monica Garcia shared why it was "very cathartic" for her to feature her relationship with her mom on Season 4.
During her debut season as a 'Wife on The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, Monica Garcia let viewers in on her sometimes-complicated relationship with her mom, Linda Darnell.
The ladies were in a good place when the season began, but things quickly deteriorated in their relationship as time went on. Later, in the Season 4 finale (aka Episode 16), it was revealed that Monica hadn't spoken to her mother since the now-famous Bermuda trip concluded.
"Since arriving home, Monica has not spoken with the other women nor her mother," Monica's end card read. "With her divorce finalized, she is focused on raising her daughters, and has no plans to return to Bermuda."
At the reunion, Monica reiterated that she was still not in contact with her mom. After the reunion taped, Monica sat down with The Cut to discuss her relationship with Linda at length.
Where Monica Garcia and Her Mother, Linda, Stand Today
As Monica told the publication, she was "in an OK place" with her mom when filming commenced on Season 4. But as the season progressed, "it went badly so fast" in their relationship.
"My mother and I have been through a lot. Truly hell and back," she said.
And though she thought that her dynamic with her mom was unique, Monica said that she heard from a lot of fans who were going through something similar. "I’m actually shocked at how many people are in the same exact situation," she continued.
She noted that, as a result, it was "very cathartic" for her to highlight their dynamic in Season 4.
What's Next for Monica Garcia After RHOSLC Season 4
As RHOSLC showrunner Lori Gordon told Variety, Monica's place in the friend group is currently in flux.
"The whole franchise is based on friends, and people who know each other and circulate in the same circles. And at this time, the women just need a cooling off period," Gordon said. "And I think it’s too soon — they’ve articulated it. It’s too soon for them to reenter into a friendship, a trusting friendship. Not enough time has passed."
Reunion host Andy Cohen agreed with Lori's sentiment, noting, "It feels too raw right now.”
"Who knows? Anything can happen. And I love a comeback," he added. "And so it would be very cool to find a path forward for her."
