Bethenny Frankel Reveals She Once Tried to Adopt a 3-Year-Old Child
The RHONY alum opened up wanting to expand her family.
Bethenny Frankel revealed that she once tried to expand her family and adopt a 3-year-old child.
The Real Housewives of New York City alum. discussed that experience in the comments section of an Instagram post shared by PEOPLE about a 9-year-old boy who opened up about his hopes of becoming adopted after spending six years in foster care.
“The thing that surprises people is that once they get into the system, it is hard to get them out,” Bethenny commented on the story, according to Page Six. “Growing up, we always heard that everyone wants a baby and not an older kid. I tried a while back to adopt a 3-year-old and it was a harder process than a newborn. If it’s like other family law systems, it’s not as easy as the movies make it.”
Bethenny is a mom to her 10-year-old daughter, Bryn, who, according to Page Six's report about Bethenny's Instagram comment, also weighed in on the story about 9-year-old Jordan. “I will adopt him. Bryn said ‘momma you should adopt him,'" Bethenny reportedly wrote on Instagram.
Several years ago, Bethenny opened up on Twitter about potentially adopting a child, especially an older child: "There's a misconception that everyone wants an infant. [Because] of this rule, babies [are] the only option. Once in system kids [are] lost. Sad."
Her comments, at that time, noted the roadblocks she faced to make an happen: "Lawyer says once [with] the state a private adoption impossible which is now upsetting me more. That is bulls--t."
