Meet Luka Brunton, the New Lead Deckhand on Below Deck Down Under Season 2
Get to know the New Zealand native, who has a unique connection to a Season 1 alum.
There's a new deckhand in town on Below Deck Down Under Season 2.
After narrowly avoiding a serious situation with the anchor — which was caused by (SPOILER) Adam Kodra — Captain Jason Chambers made the difficult decision to fire the deckhand.
"That anchor being dropped underway is kind of where I draw the line," Captain Jason told the Brooklyn native on Episode 13, which aired on August 28. "We're going to let you go, and I'm going to bring in a lead deckhand. I just need someone with more experience."
Shortly after Adam left Northern Sun, his replacement came in.

Who is Luka Brunton from Below Deck Down Under?
The new lead deckhand hails from Raglan, New Zealand. With a Halloween birthday, Luka is a Scorpio.
Captain Jason brought Luka in to help add some more experience to João Franco's deck team. As someone who has been in the yachting industry for seven years, Luka certainly isn't green.
He's also seen a lot during his tenure in the industry. Per his official bio, Luka said that his "wildest charter guest story" ever featured public figures.
"I have had some high-profile guests visit a yacht. We had to pick them up in a tender in the middle of the night with no lights on so they wouldn’t be seen," he revealed.
When he's not working on boats, Luka's favorite activities are snowboarding, skydiving, and surfing.
He described the rest of Below Deck Down Under Season 2 as "epic, wet, and dramatic."
How does Luka Brunton know Aesha Scott?
As viewers learned soon after Luka joined the crew, he is very familiar with chief stew Aesha Scott already.
"I love Luka," Aesha said in an interview on Episode 13. "When I first started yachting, my sister and I went to France to look for our first yachting jobs together. And that's when I became friends with Luka. He's just one of those guys [who] everyone is drawn to and everyone likes."
Luka was also excited to see the chief stew.
"[It's] so good to see Aesha again," Luka said in a separate interview. "She's like family, actually."
Speaking of family, Luka and Aesha later talked about another level of their connection: The lead deckhand had a fling with Aesha's sister seven years ago.
"Luka knows my sister very well," the interior team crew member joked, before revealing that she heard that Luka had also previously had a rendezvous with Below Deck Down Under Season 1 alum Magda Ziomek.
When asked about whether he hooked up with Magda, Luka laughed and responded, "Yeah."
